Suzy — Don’t get too excited. He was invited, but said he’s too set in his ways for a white tie dinner.

It would have been hard for him to control himself and not call the Queen an old cow who wears ugly hats. That’s our Harry!

No, It’s a Clinton next and then a Bush.

That's what I hear. The trilateral commission has it all worked out.

A White House pool report said he's been "identified only as a friend of the family." Well, perhaps that's the term for beaus these days. Various media sources say the lucky guy is Jay Blount -- like Barbara, a Yalie.

The Yale Daily News says Blount is in the Class of '05 and is a founding member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. In Blount's sophomore year, Yale's Rumpus magazine named him one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" on campus.

But despite the excitement and hundreds of hours of preparation, Mrs. Bush suggested that this white-tie affair could not only be their first _ but last. She called the dinner, somewhat wistfully, “the most elegant and most formal that we’ll host.”

Laura Bush has been a good and devoted wife. President Bush owes her a few more state dinners.

Now I've switched over to margaritas made with Jose Cuervo. If the Queen and friends want to drop over, I reckon I can scare up another pitcher or two.

Why, that's mighty neighborly of you.

I have a suspicion that most of the Americans attending this dinner would have been loyalists prior to the revolution.

Ah, some of them probably are now... /grin

Guests shmests. Do we have the menu???

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The 130 guests invited to tonight's state dinner at the White House in honor of Queen Elizabeth II will begin their meal with a wild asparagus velout‚ accompanied by chive oil and tomato fondue, according to First Lady Laura Bush's office.

The second course will be seared baby sea bass with ramp-vermouth sauce and lemony risotto. The menu also includes ruby red grapefruit fillets with jicama and Florida avocados, and a citrus dressing. For desert, raspberry meringue, dark chocolate sorbet and mint granita will be served.

The wine for the dinner will be the 2004 Chardonnay from the DuMOL winery in Northern California's Russian River Valley. According to Wine Spectator, the 2004 Chardonnay is "fresh and fruity, teetering on sweet, with tangerine, peach and nectarine fruit that's pure and juicy" and sells for $56 per bottle.

Preparations for White House's first state dinner since 2003 began weeks ago.

Only bits and pieces. Here's one description:

The menu and entertainment were designed as a showcase of America’s best: spring pea soup with U.S. caviar, dover sole almondine, spring lamb with chanterelle sauce and local vegetables and an arugula, mustard greens and romaine salad, said executive chef Cristeta Comerford.

I dunno. I think I'd rather have a chili relleno and a Dos XX beer.

With RAMP vermouth sauce? Do they mean "ramp", as in those nasty wild onions?

During the 3pm (Central time) news break, ABC news chick Ann Compton reported on this shindig. She noted that President Bush would have to figure out what fork to use for each course of the meal.
