"..Vice President Dick Cheneys surprise trip to Baghdad today was meant to deliver a tough message to the Iraqi government put off your vacation plans and get back to work.
U.S. officials have been livid since discovering that Iraqs fledgling parliament hardly a hive of activity in the first place was planning to take a two-month summer recess, postponing work on a bill spelling out how oil money would be shared among Iraqs ethnic and sectarian groups or a law authorizing new regional elections.
The new American ambassador to Baghdad, Ryan Crocker, told reporters flying with Cheney that the vice president would convey American displeasure over the planned vacation. The reality is, with the major effort were making, the major effort the Iraqi security forces and military are making themselves, for the Iraqi parliament to take a two-month vacation in the middle of summer is impossible to understand, Crocker said..."

If this is for real, then certainly it’s not going to play well.
I’m surprised we haven’t heard more about it in the MSM, and a little skeptical, frankly.
I've been carping on this all week.
I hope Dick can convince them to get to work. I hope he brought his shotgun.
Seriously, it kills me to think of our troops risking their lives there while the do-nothing parliament collects $120,000.00 each (from us!) Many don't even live in Iraq "because it's too dangerous and uncomfortable."
They reported this on FoxNews with Sheppard Smith. It should get around big as outrageous as it is!
They will show up or the US should go!
Doesn’t our Congress take long vacations while over 150,000 soldiers are facing bullets?
If he can get the Iraqi Parliament to postpone their summer vacation, perhaps he can get our Congress to do the same.
I’ve been railing against this on other threads. If the Iraqis pull this crap then the Dems will have ammo for their partial funding bill that will sunset in July. What do you think will happen when the violence level in Baghdad keeps half of Parliment from returning from vacation? The Dems will have all the excuse and political cover they need to cut off all funding!
Bubba -- I am definitely crazed about this -- but I don't think we can just go and leave behind all that oil for the scavengers from Syria and Iran to steal -- then sell it back to us.
We've lost too much blood over there and made too many sacrifices and spent our treasury on Iraq -- just to walk away with nothing.
I say we topple the parliament (like we did Saddham) and put our own government in place -- until the Iraqis get done killing each other and become real men.
That is not even slightly similar.
They are just following the example of our own DO-NOTHING congress.
You can’t help people who have no desire to help themselves.
If this goes thru It’s time we get out.
They’re just following the example of our Congress.
If we were to do anything there after something like that it
should be to take their damn oil.
Looks like politicians are the same all over the world. Probably want a raise when they get back.
E & P is left of Marx.
Just goes to show that few politicians ANYWHERE are worth a cup of warm spit, and that includes too many of our own. Unfortunately, all the alternatives are worse. As Churchill once said, democracy is the worst system except for all the others.
Too often any parliament or congress tends toward the worst features of its members, kind of a race to the bottom (just think of the current appalling “leadership” of our own Congress with RATS like Reid, Pelosi, Durbin, Murtha, Conyers, Levin, Rockefeller, Schumer, Shrillery, Obama, et al). It is difficult to get a decent legislature anywhere in the world, when it is so easy for cowardly demagogues to prevail....
Makes me wonder if their plans aren’t so they won’t be in town for an imminent offensive by the terrorists.
We could always fight this war from 15,000 feet, like Clinton did in Bosnia.
It's not just the fact that they are leaving -- it's that they have voted on nothing this year because no one shows up! Without a vote on the Oil revenue sharing bill -- there can be no end to the violence that is killing our troops.
I want them all put under house arrest.
We should tell these fools that thay can take their vacation, but we won’t be there when they return. This is pretty good evidence that these people are not serious, and that Iraq is a lost cause.
