SANTA ANA
An Iranian-born man has been sentenced to two years in prison for illegally exporting U.S. military aircraft parts to Iran, authorities said this week.
Reza Tabib, 52, of Irvine, pleaded guilty in June to violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which prohibits the export and re-export to Iran of certain items of U.S. origin.
As part of his sentencing Monday, Tabib also must complete six months of home confinement.
Tabib, a U.S. citizen, was arrested along with his wife, Terri Repic-Tabib, in February 2006 after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents intercepted and seized maintenance kits designed for F-14 jets that the couple sent to Iran via Germany.
Authorities said they found 13,000 aircraft parts worth more than $500,000 at the couple's home. The search also turned up numerous aircraft parts list that were provided to the Tabibs by an Iranian military office, federal officials said.
"One of ICE's top enforcement priorities is preventing terrorist groups and hostile nations from illegally obtaining U.S. military products and sensitive technology," said William Hayes, assistant special agent in charge for ICE's office in Orange County.
"These items are controlled for good reason. In the wrong hands, they could be used to inflict harm upon America or its allies," he said.
Repic-Tabib pleaded guilty to providing a false statement and was sentenced in March to two years probation.
Two lousy years? They should have stripped his citizenship then shot him. Then deported him.
Regards
I agree. What’s up with the light sentence?
Two years probation???????? Toss him out of the country and lock the door.
Wow, just wow.
The only thing I can think of is that he gave us something in return.
And people wonder why then SecDef Cheney ordered Grumman to destroy the tooling for the F-14.
It’s a perfect example of why the Gitmo terrorists should not have access to US courts. 3/4 of them would end up getting probation and then asylum. This Mr and Mrs Dirtbag should have their citizenship revoked, spend about 50 years in the slammer or both.
His photo is still taped to the wall next to my computer.
I didn’t know that. Thanks.
I hope so... but 2 years is still a tad light no matter what he gave us.
Agree...and if he didn’t give us anything, he should have been prosecuted for treason. Odd how nothing is treasonous anymore, huh?
They are still trying to get those F-14s in the air? Have they ever actually flown one since the Shah was ousted? I thought that Honeywell permanently FUBARed their munitions capability on the way out of the country in 1979.
I will post for him.
"The real reason Cheney ordered the F-14 tooling destroyed was that he was a Hornet Lover, in the pocket of McDonnell Douglas! The Tomcat was the greatest airplane ever designed by man! Do you hear me?!"
I can joke about it because I flew them, too.
They fly on a daily basis on combat air patrols. They have been for many years now and are extremely well known to Coaliton forces in the region. The same with their F-4 Phantom fleet and F-5s. All very much still active. The Iranian aerospace industry has put a lot of effort into reverse-engineering aircraft parts and engine parts.
Dude, is this the same Calvin Locke from Tinley Park Illinois? Long time, bro.....
