I live in GA. We have Hispanic and Black families that attend our predominently white church. Our pianst is a lovely black Christian woman. This church was built around seventy-five years ago. It is nice to see that things change with time.

Big Love is currently the best acted, written, directed and produced show on TV. The new season starts June 11 — can’t wait.

Your analysis is very superficial. Submitting to the laws of the land is first priority in a Christian belief. God himself established governments from the beginning of the world, and the US government most of all is inspired of God. If you go about obeying the law of God and do all you can to obey, but are constrained by laws or governments beyond your control, the Lord will not require it more of you.

To put it another way. All the innocent children that died in communist countries or otherwise had no knowledge of Christ and his teachings, they will not be punished. Only the most evil of persons would think a child that dies before the age of accountability needs to be cleansed of sin, and the same goes for persons with mental handicaps and even the many who have died without knowledge of the gospel.

“Mormons believe all other Christians are apostates, so it is pretty lame to be claiming victimhood.”

[Details... ]

You wanted details Elsie, so here ya go:

*******************

* Joseph Fielding Smith said: [There is] “no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190).
* Brigham Young stated: “no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith...every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p.289).
* Brigham Young also declared, “he that confesseth not that Jesus has come in the flesh and sent Joseph Smith with the fullness of the Gospel to this generation, is not of God, but is anti-christ” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 9, p.312).
* President George Q. Cannon said: “If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]” (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142).

Can salvation can come only through the LDS Church?

* Mormon scriptures claim that the LDS church is “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth” (Doctrine and Covenants, 1:30).
* Joseph Smith stated: “This [the LDS] Church...is the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:30).
* President Ezra Taft Benson said: “This is not just another Church. This is not just one of a family of Christian churches. This is the Church and kingdom of God, the only true Church upon the face of the earth...” (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p.164-165).
* Bruce McConkie stated: “If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” (Mormon Doctrine, p.670).
* Marion Romney (LDS First Presidency) said, “This Church is the ensign on the mountain spoken of by the Old Testament prophets. It is the way, the truth, and the life” (Conference Report, April, 1961, pg. 119).

Statements by Mormon Leaders about Christian churches (made by many of the LDS Prophet-Presidents):

* Joseph Smith stated that God told him: “they [other churches] were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt” (from Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith-History 1:19).
* Joseph Smith continues: “for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible” (from Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith-History 1:12). “What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270).
* Questions put to Joseph Smith: “’Do you believe the Bible?’ [Smith:]’If we do, we are the only people under heaven that does, for there are none of the religious sects of the day that do’. When asked ‘Will everybody be damned, but Mormons’? [Smith replied] ‘Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119).
* Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: “When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness” (Journal of Discourses 5:73); “The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God” (Journal of Discourses 8:171); “With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world” (Journal of Discourses 8:199); “And who is there that acknowledges [God’s] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.24); “Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity” (Journal of Discourses 10:230).
* Orson Pratt proclaimed: “Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the ‘whore of Babylon’ whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent” (The Seer, p. 255).
* Pratt also said: “This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now” (Journal of Discourses, vol.18, p.44) and: “But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance” (Journal of Discourses, 18:172).
* President John Taylor stated: “Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century.” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.167); “Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom.” (Journal of Discourses, 10:127).
* James Talmage said: “A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ”. (A Study of the Articles of Faith, p.182).
* President Joseph Fielding Smith said: “Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness.” (Doctrines of Salvation, p.266). “For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the ‘Christian’ churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men” (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).
* More recent statements by apostle Bruce McConkie are also very clear: “Apostasy was universal...And this darkness still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel” (Doctrines of Salvation, vol 3, p.265); “Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general” (The Millennial Messiah, p.403); “a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom” (Mormon Doctrine, p.132); “virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit” (Mormon Doctrine, p.269); “Gnosticism is one of the great pagan philosophies which antedated Christ and the Christian Era and which was later commingled with pure Christianity to form the apostate religion that has prevailed in the world since the early days of that era.” (Mormon Doctrine, p.316).

*******

There’s more, but as a good Mormon you will ignore the evidence.

“You are so disingenuous waving this “apostate flag” omitting that it was answer from God to a young boy prayer.”

If I am disingenuous for omitting some young boys prayer, you must by comparison be the prevaricator of the year for claiming Mormons don’t consider Christians as apostates.

So I will wait patiently for your apology. Oh wait, Mormons are never wrong, they just have a “new revelation” when they are confronted with inconvenient facts.

So you don't consider the LDS to be Christian so what's your point?

****

This is council for the LDS and you don't believe in the LDS faith so why should you, pardon the expression sticking your nose in the LDS business?

At no time do I ever recall the LDS going into your house of worship or to hinder your right to worship as you believe etc.

I don't complain about your Articles of Faith each can practice their religion according to the dictates of their consciences!

Articles of Faith
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

What you are doing is snooping and faultfinding, about something you have made no covenant with, or choose to practice, and in real essence you are interfering with another’s religious freedom trying to tell the LDS how they should worship.

Your responsibility should be to practices your own Articles of Faith

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

In this thread, have you been
reviled?
persecuted?
had things said falsely against you?

Please read my post again. I said nothing about proof, or about who is right.

Correct; you didn't.

But you also didn't address what was written, other than to revel in the fact that someone disagreed with what the LDS organization (the Church) is saying.

I heard plural marriage came about as a way to help another family survive in the frontier and wilderness when a husband died.

So THAT's why all them other states but Utah had trouble being populated!

I think it was more a purely faith-based principle...

Emma seemed not to think so!

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 132

51–57, Emma Smith is counseled (commanded) to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, areceive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.
53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been afaithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.
54 And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and acleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be bdestroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law.
55 But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.
56 And again, verily I say, let mine handmaid aforgive my servant Joseph his trespasses; and then shall she be forgiven her trespasses, wherein she has trespassed against me; and I, the Lord thy God, will bless her, and multiply her, and make her heart to brejoice.

Whatever HAPPENED to Emma???

Oh, by the way...
THE DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS

SECTION 132:34

God commanded Abraham, and Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to wife. And why did she do it? Because this was the law; and from Hagar sprang many people. This, therefore, was fulfilling, among other things, the promises.

You LDS folks will be hard pressed to find THIS assertion in the OT.

The facts:

NIV Genesis 15:1-6
 1.  After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. "
 2.  But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit  my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"
 3.  And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir."
 4.  Then the word of the LORD came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir."
 5.  He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."
 6.  Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
.
.
.

NIV Genesis 16:1-16
 1.  Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar;
 2.  so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her."   Abram agreed to what Sarai said.
 3.  So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.
 4.  He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.   When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress.
 5.  Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me."
 6.  "Your servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.
 7.  The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.
 8.  And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?"   "I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
 9.  Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her."
 10.  The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."
 11.  The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery.
 12.  He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward  all his brothers."
 13.  She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen  the One who sees me."
 14.  That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi ; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.
 15.  So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.
 16.  Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

Don’t go too far with the plural marriage discussion, it isn’t relevant to Mitt Romney or his exemplary marriage.

True; but it IS 'relevant' to one of the foundation stones of the LDS organization.

New and Everlasting convenant (brought on by the Atonement of Jesus Christ) according to Revelations is still in effect.

New and Everlasting convenant (brought on by Joseph Smith) according to current LDS rules, lasted only 47 years.

It limped off the scene, with the current 'prophet' saying...

"This is the question I lay before the Latter-day Saints. You have to judge for yourselves. I want you to answer it for yourselves. I shall not answer it; but I say to you that that is exactly the condition we as a people would have been in had we not taken the course we have."

From President Gordon B Hinckley:

Well, I say this: We don’t downgrade any religion. (Wow! When did THIS change?) We recognize the good they all do. I say to those of other faiths: ‘You bring all the good that you have and let us see if we can add to it.’ Now that’s our attitude reduced to a very short statement, and it works.

Works: it's ALL about WORKS!!

Last I heard, THIS was in effect:

JOSEPH SMITH—HISTORY
EXTRACTS FROM THE HISTORY OF JOSEPH SMITH, THE PROPHET
History of the Church, Vol. 1, Chapters 1-5

18 My object in going to ainquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all awrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those bprofessors were all ccorrupt; that: “they ddraw near to me with their lips, but their ehearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the fcommandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the gpower thereof.”

Can any of you LDS folks point me to the official change in attitude of the LDS organization?  I would be upset to know I was propagating an untruth.

Interestingly, there were at least 16 Missus Smiths (in addition to the original) prior to the revelation of the everlasting covenant, according to http://www.wivesofjosephsmith.org

This is not one of those scandalous ANTI-Mormon sites; is it?

The one's that lie and misrepresent so much??
