Dungy Appearance Draws Protesters
Minnesota Monitor ^ | May 9, 2007 | Andy Birkey

Nearly two-dozen University of Minnesota students demonstrated at an appearance by University of Minnesota alumnus and longtime NFL coach Tony Dungy at Mariucci Arena on Tuesday afternoon. Dungy played football for the Golden Gophers in the early 1970s and has coached for numerous NFL teams, most notably as head coach for the Indianapolis Colts, champions of Super Bowl XLI. He was honored by the University of Minnesota Alumni Association with an Outstanding Achievement Award presented as part of a celebration of the TCF stadium deal.

Dungy sparked a minor controversy in March when he was honored at the Indiana Family Institute and in a speech said he supported a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and a ban on marriage-like benefits. "We're not trying to downgrade anyone else. But we're trying to promote the family -- family values the Lord's way," Dungy said at the dinner last month. His statements generated criticism among LGBT groups in Indiana and the nation.

If you aren’t considered the enemy by these people, then there is something wrong. Dungy is class, a word those protesters can’t even spell.

I was in college in Minnesota when Dungy was quarterbacking the Golden Gophers. He is about the best thing that ever happened to the state...and, if these students cannot see that, they should change the U. of Minnesota mascot from the gopher to the state’s bird: The loon!

Diversity of opinion is one thing.......as long as it agrees with us.

~grin~

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.Ye are the salt of the earth...Matthew 5:11-13

You ain't seen nothin' yet. Just wait until the Republican Convention.

Whoever decided to have it in the twin cities needs a brain transplant.

And Dungy is absolutely right in what he is saying.

Family, the man woman family, is why the “special considerations” are there in the first place. Its not just there for the asking amd mean people are refusing to grant them.

Libs can’t stand a man of principle. This world would be a much better place with more Tony Dungys than they would be with those protesting him.

Tony is all class

A few years ago, my nephew's best friend was an offensive lineman for the Bucs and Tony. He'd played many years up to when Tony left the Bucs for the Colts. The friend was at the end of his career and was cut under the new coaching team.

That left him about a year between a good pension and getting a great pension (NFL's pension).

Tony got wind of this and got him a Colt's contract for one year.

Peter suited up for and played in 5 games giving him enough seniority for that better pension. And retired on his terms.

Those who adore destruction abhor those who represent achievements in constructiing things (whether they are championship teams, cohesive families, or civilizations).

Isn't it interesting that vitually all of our greatest enemies and detractors are reknown for their lack of ability to create or be productive? The entire Middle East, sans oil and Isreal, has the GDP of Belgium. Liberals rail against virtually any and all energy production. Environmentalists oppose construction of almost any kind. Democrats incessantly seek to weaken our military greatness. Urban culture eschews and belittles educational paths to success. Pro-choice folk seek the destroy those "mere cells" that are busy creating a miracle. Unions organize to minimize productivity and profitability. The Brady crowd wants to prevent me from being able to protect myself and others, thus minimizing the protective shield that civil society needs. The media has done an exceptional job of ensuring that no group of productive or helpful people can gain and hold the trust of others.

It is always easier to destroy than create. Creation always takes time and great effort.

On a more general note, why does our society allow the tail to wag the dog? These "protesters" invariably come from the same tiny core group of maladjusted discontents that - for lack of better and more productive things to do with their sorry lives - disrupt every public event they can with their ridiculous and petty agendas.

The press conference these rabble-rousers regularly receive is far out of proportion to their numbers. You could have a gathering of 5,000 people for a speech but if five freaks show up with signs and chants, that is all you ready about the next day in the papers.

A wild chimpanzee male will intimidate his fellow rivals for the troop leadership by breaking off tree branches and shaking them at the other males to make it seem like he is bigger and badder than they are. This is no different.........
