I don’t believe this.

It’s always an “aggressive” dog, no matter if it’s a perky lab or a killer poodle.

Police should have better problem solving skills than always shooting the dog...unless they enjoy it.

One of the most appalling cases occurred in Maricopa County, Arizona, the home of Joe Arpaio, self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in America." In 2004 one of Arpaio's SWAT teams conducted a bumbling raid in a Phoenix suburb. Among other weapons, it used tear gas and an armored personnel carrier that later rolled down the street and smashed into a car. The operation ended with the targeted home in flames and exactly one suspect in custody--for outstanding traffic violations.

But for all that, the image that sticks in your head, as described by John Dougherty in the alternative weekly Phoenix New Times, is that of a puppy trying to escape the fire and a SWAT officer chasing him back into the burning building with puffs from a fire extinguisher. The dog burned to death.

Go back to the DU, moron.

While it's true that the raids covered by the media may not be typical, it's quite apparent that those in power consider it acceptable to act with reckless disregard for the safety of animals owned by people not charged with any crime. The job would certainly seem attractive to those who would get a perverse pleasure from attacking innocent people's pets, and I see no reason to believe those in power would object to hiring such people.

Inkster police confirmed that officers had a search warrant to enter a home for undisclosed reasons.

Undisclosed reasons? Was it unpaid library fines or parking tickets or maybe the dog they shot went to the bathroom on a neighbor's lawn and the dog owner failed to clean it up? Anyway, it's time for the Inkster SWAT team. Of course, if a deranged killer shot up the local high school or college, these brave boys in Gestapo black would be hiding behind trees in their body armor while the murderer went about his business.

Where these cops went is a very bad area and is referred to as 'little saigon.' Lots of drugs. If you are driving in the area and you are white, you will get pulled over by the cops if they see you.

Somehow, when they shot and killed the dog, the bullet ricocheted off a wall, went through the door and shot both cops. That's the story so far.

Of course the dog was shot. What kind of pinhead is going to let a dog chew on him, cop or no?

The simple solution to not have your pet killed by the "po-po": Don't let your dog bite people.

The job would certainly seem attractive to those who would get a perverse pleasure from attacking innocent people's pets, and I see no reason to believe those in power would object to hiring such people.

This could be the second most moronic statement I've read this week. (The original post is still #1.)

The job would certainly also tend to attract people (many ex-military) who are trying to do something good for the community. What good have *you* done?

Don't bother to reply here, just go back to DU.

You cop groupies crack me up. Some Barney Fife shot at a dog and hit two fellow Barneys.

You have to admit, two police officers hit downrange, from only three shots fired by their fellow officer, is pretty remarkable.

Most dogs will make a lot of noise if anyone gets near their house, and this house doesn't sound like it's really solidly built. I'm wondering if the police were actually surprised by the dog (hard to believe), or if they went in expecting to shoot it. If the dog was barking and they went in planning to shoot it, you'd think basic tactics would be for the guys at the back to take cover.

Will pit bulls stay silent while strangers forcibly open and enter the house where they live? Very hard to believe.

Sad they got hit but it sounds like they need to get some more focus on teamwork and tactics.

The shot the dog inside the home, by the lack of details in the story, it sounds like the dog may have been going for the back door where the other officers were waiting for a suspect to bail. They open fire on doggy, who clearly is in the direct line of fire with the officers standing outside the back door.
They get hit with 2 of the three rounds shot? That dog must have been right close to that back door. I’d almost suspect the dog was trying to bail out the back too.
