From the schedule to get this through Congress before Memorial Day, it looks like a lot of people will be voting without knowing what is in the bill.
Immigration is a huge problem, but not a "must handle it this week" crisis. If they wait until July to read it and vote on it, the only problem will be a few thousand more illegals sneaking in. Passing a bad bill in a rush will be vastly worse than that.
On the other hand, I think they want to pass it before anyone has a chance to read, analyze and comment on it. They don't want us to know the details.
“There is still a little glimmer of hope.”
There is zero hope that this, or something worse, won’t be passed into law. The only hope is that those RINO’S responsible for the travesty will be held to account at the polls.
Demint should nail this thing hard...make it clear for what it is for all to see. Sadly, shamefull IMHO, there is little hope that he can keep the Senate from passing it...but if he does his job, the House is a different matter, and there will be time for the people to make it clear that it is not in the Congressmen’s best interest.
Don’t be so fast - give him a chance - be open.
You WILL be impressed.
Oh, I know that one! By Tony Sopranostein........
OK. I will go back and read the actual site. I was just so mad to see that and was quick to judge, but truthfully only because of the topic at this moment. I will write back soon.
Thanks!!!
1000 Pages? Should only take one page....”Get the hell out or go to prison.” Don’t seem that hard to me.
It really looks like they are going to do it this time... nothing is "getting jumped"
My bank "Push 1 to continue in English"
What the freak...
I am with you.
I have supported the president despite my disagreement with him on this issue and on spending. However this immigration thing is emblematic of the flaws in his leadership style. A president needs to be steadfast in his approach to principles. President Bush however, is intransigent. He should have simply reevaluated his position on this and changed course. His views on immigration were formed when he was Governor of Texas, in a pre 9/11 world. They were probably not the best policies even in that context.
If we the people want to stop this, we can. It’s just a question of whether we really want to stop it.
Well, Drudge linked the press release, so, it’s pegged.....
I agree. Jim DeMint is one of the good guys. If Mitt is successful in winning the nomination -- I hope he has big plans for Jim DeMint.
Mitt Romney has received the endorsement of Sen. Jim DeMint who is a leading figure in the U.S. Senate advocating reduced federal budget spending and smaller government (a hero to fiscal conservatives).

Not sure how the GOP can pull together 40 votes to sustain a filibuster in the Senate if both McConnell and Lott have gone over...
Assuming all 50 RATS want this permanent RAT majority legislation (why wouldn’t they?), they only need 10 GOP votes to shut off debate.
We know they have Specter, McCain, Collins, Snowe, Graham, probably Sununu...
Hard to see how they can’t get to 60 easily...
If this means they have to speak English and I can quit learning Spanish I'm all for it.
The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a "Z visa" andafter paying fees and a $5,000 fineultimately get on track for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. Heads of household would have to return to their home countries first.
Now I see why the democrats like this bill, it's basically a way to institute another tax and blame it on the Republicans who are probably the ones demanding some kind of retribution for getting a ticket to pass go. As for sending the father back to wherever and leaving the wife and kids here, this is just another way to fractionalize the family unit, which is the democrats' first love.
Those workers would have to return home after work stints of two years, with little opportunity to gain permanent legal status or ever become U.S. citizens. They could renew their guest worker visas twice, but would be required to leave for a year in between each time.
So what is it, a 2 year amnesty program? Then the worker will leave voluntarily like they do before their visas expire? They work for 2 years, leave for a year then work for 2 more years? I guess we shouldn't worry about anyone violating the system because I'm sure the high-tech worker identification program will work perfectly, just like everything else has worked perfectly up to now.
I hope we don’t take a thousand page bill written in secret and try to ram it through the Senate in a few days. This is a very important issue for America and we need time to debate it.
That is EXACTLY what they plan on doing.
>>There is zero hope that this, or something worse, wont be passed into law.<<
I called both my senators. One is opposed to it, the other undecided. Believing that you are powerless, and not calling both your senators, is a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Thanks for posting this. I heard this on the way home from work and am trying to wade thru all of the info. When I heard about the deal on Schnitt as I was driving, what ran thru my mind was the illegal aliens and their supporters in the streets of America demanding we let them stay. And, here we are, giving in to their demands. Sickening....
susie
Yes, it is. I am glad to see that Senator DeMint is forthrightly naming this bill as an amnesty.
