“Senator McCain and his allies seem to think they can dupe the American public into accepting a blanket amnesty if they just call it ‘comprehensive’ or ‘earned legalization’ or ‘regularization.”

Actually, in the past, McCain has called it an “earned amnesty.”

He does use the “A” word.

“..Sens. McCain and Kennedy and President Bush..”

Will someone please explain why this unsavory threesome is so ready to give the country away? What’s in it for them?

I know the feeling. At this point if the Republicans nominate a conservative sell-out or a RINO I’m prepared to write-in Tancredo or Hunter. And that wouldn’t be throwing away a vote as some would contend. But that’s another story.

Sorry FRiend, when bush signs this amnesty bill into law, he will be handing the keys to the oval office to hillary at the same time

Bush has only one vote in the 2008 election. The outcome depends on how everyone casts their vote when presented with a choice between Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton.

You do know that the Republicans are the minority party now, right?

Granted, the GOP never got the hang of being the majority when they had it. But after the last election when the FR delegation decided to rejoice in the democrat majority... Its tough to pin this abortion on the party.

Bush has been screwed by everyone he trusted. Might as well be one of them, eh?

Well Post #44 sort of makes your point. :-) Apparently not a shortage of those emotional hotheads about who appear willing to cut off their noses to spite their arses.

Our Nation is desperate for leadership who will stop this Illegal insanity. Today was a huge wake up call.

We're must run someone STRONG in that area. Hillary may not be the nominee, anyway. There's still John Edwards, Obama and maybe Al Gore.

Don't give up..

It is a fact supported by exit polls that independents, and not ‘moron’ conservatives, elected demonrats to lead the Congress. Just look at the exit polls for the six incubent Senate Republicans who lost in 2006 and you will see what I mean.

You’re not all wrong.

Yeah, the GOP could be better but it took a dem majority to do this.

That said, the amnesty portions of this bill are abhorrent. Some of the rest of the bill actually makes some sense.

What I don’t really understand is why the issues of work visas/permits needs to be connected to the citizenship process at all. Seems to me that we can clean up the work visa system and get all the people who just want to come here for jobs in labor-strapped industries like hotels and such... Without complicating the system by tying it to the citizenship process.

Disconnect them. There’s work visas and there’s a citizenship process. No need for them to be connected at all.

No. This amnesty bill is why conservatives stayed home in 2006. It’s the crap like this, and the medicare bill, and the no child left behind, and the massive spending, etc etc etc, that leads people to have a “screw it” attitude.

Ed Meese, who was Attorney Grneral then, recently said there were only about 2.5 million illegals at the time and they also called IT WHAT IS WAS IN FACT - AMNESTY! He also pointed out that we should learn a lesson from that past mistake: the border enforcement provisions that were part of the 1986 amnesty were NEVER enforced! Deja vu all over again? Tragically for our nation, S.1348 indicates that we havn’t learned much.

If I am not mistaken, they are going to build 370 miles of fence, 200 miles of vehicle barriers and sensors and add 6000 more border patrol agents to beef up the border. I heard that repeated several times today. If that do that first, it will make this stink pile smell less to me. It will still smell much better than what Reagan did.

I didn’t stay home, but I’m getting about sick of the Country Club Republicans that spend all their time defending RINOs, securing a place on the ballot for the RINOs and then whining because nobody showed up to support their weak, no-good, Democrat-lite candidates.

This bill isn’t brought to you by people who sat out the 2006 elections, this bill is brought to you by the Republican Party elites who want our money, want our votes but darn sure don’t want to represent our interests.

You do know that the Republicans are the minority party now, right?

Duh. That is abundantly clear. It is also abundantly clear that a lot of Reoublicans in DC see that as a reason to bend over and spread them.

Being in the minority and (maybe) unable to stop the Dems doesn't justify capitulation. Why does minority status require that Republican Senators support bad legislation? They're not allowed to vote against it?

It is not tough to pin (much of) this abortion on the party.
They should have taken care of this when they were the majority. But they are afraid of offending illegals. Bush is also head of the party while in the WH. I have not seen any real evidence in his tenure that demonstrates a serious effort to lead or unite the party. If he has leaned on many Republican Senators he has been doggone subtle about it.

Minority status now is not an excuse. Indeed, what they did and did not do when majority is why they occupy the minority role now.

Bush has been screwed by everyone he trusted.

Well, he is doing a pretty good job right now of screwing those of us that placed our trust in him. I can't rationalize away his behavior RE illegals. There is no excuse.

Our southern border is a HUGE security nightmare. For that reason alone there is no good reason for dicking around for 6 years doing nothing about it.

Most of the base that didn't get out last year would have if the President and Senate has *just tried*. You know, really tried. The philosophy of beltway Republicans is, if success is not guaranteed, no point in trying. I think most can forgive failure if they genuinely tried to do the right thing. They didn't.

I did not stay home in 06, and I discouraged others from doing it. But right now I am so disgusted I will make no predictions for 08.

Good clip indeed. He mentioned Hillary. Did you know Bay Buchanan was on Lou Dobbs tonight talking about her new book on Hillary? It apparently shows what a phony she is. By the way, since I’m working on Team Tancredo I have a favorable bias towards Bay. She’s Tancredo’s campaign manager.

President Ronald Reagan once said, “I did not leave the dimocrat party. The dimocrat party left me.” Well, today, with this support of this bill, what little that I clinged too in my minimal support of the RINOcrat party, I can safely say, “I did not leave the RINOcrat party, the Republican party left me.” Today, I pledge not to support with any of my time and money any republican who supports this bill. They should all be tried for treason. Each has forgotten their sworn duty to protect this Republic.
