Duncan Hunter speaks with White House on Senate Bill
Cnn/Lou Dobbs ^ | May 17, 2007 | Lou Dobbs Transcript

Posted on 05/17/2007 7:00:12 PM PDT by AuntB

But the president may be on a collision course with fellow conservatives in his party. Republican congressman Duncan Hunter just emerged from a meeting here with the president. As you know, his district in California is right on the U.S.-Mexico border, in San Diego.

Congressman Hunter told me he is making it clear to the White House he thinks this is a rotten deal.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER (R), CALIFORNIA: Listen, we passed my bill in October that calls for 854 miles of border fence across Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The Senate bill cuts my fence in half, literally takes it down to 370 miles.

That's going to do a lot to damage enforcement on the border. You have to have an enforceable border. The Senate bill takes us the wrong way.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HENRY: Now, Congressman Hunter also told me that he told the president that out of the 854 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border that is supposed to be built, mandated in that law passed last year, only two miles have actually been built. Congressman Hunter said he told that to the president and the president seemed surprised -- Lou.

DOBBS: Surprised. Why would he be surprised?

HENRY: Well, certainly, he's been getting reports suggesting that they're making a lot of progress on that. And Duncan Hunter said he pressed him and said that he needs to check back into it because he doesn't think progress is being made -- Lou.

DOBBS: Well, one would think that if you're coming up about 852 miles short over the course of six months, not even by government standards would that be considered progress.

Ed Henry, thank you very much, reporting from the White House.

..nobody is more offended at GWB's immigration policy than I

But let's not be ruled by emotion--impeachment would play right into the hands of our enemies--foreign and domestic.

Just keep advancing causes and candidates (DH) who will actually do something to preserve national sovereignty...

Politics ends at the shore. This is entirely a domestic crisis and President Bush has shown an appalling lack of leadership in this matter. President Bush took an oath of office in which he promised to "faithfully execute the laws" of the United States of America. He has not only failed to execute the laws, but he is now giving aid and comfort to foreign nationals who have deliberately and wantonly violated them. He has broken his oath and as such he no longer is qualified to be the President of the United States. His loyalty is not to the United States, but to Globalism and International Business interests.

If the president knows that those who put him into office are mad enough to have him forcefully removed from that office, then perhaps we can convince him that he needs to change direction. If he signs off on this bill, I will support any effort to have him removed from office.

As long as Bush tries to ram this traitorous legislation down the throats of the CITIZENS of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, I will call for his removal from office.

I voted for him twice. He is now poised to be the worst president in the History of the United States. If this legislation is passed, then the United States is history.

IMPEACH BUSH!!!

..all of us are upset, but if you think on that statement a while, you will change your mind.

Tearing ourselves apart, politically, will not advance our cause--it's less than a couple of years till the opportunity for change comes by--let's remain vigilant, but calm...

Our leaders have turned a deaf ear to their constituencies. Bush has a divided loyalty. If this bill passes we can expect an influx of 100 million legal immigrants whose only criteria for entrance into this country is that they are the relatives of people who deliberately violated our laws.

They don't listen to our polite requests. Bush may start listening when he realizes that he has not only lost his base, but that the base is willing to join with the likes of Pelosi in calling for his removal from office.

I doubt the Senate would have the cajones to remove him from office, but at this point, he has violated his oath of office and thus he is no longer fit to be the president of the United States.

Playing nice hasn't worked. It's time we played dirty.

IMPEACH BUSH!!!!

Do you not agree that by failing to enforce any immigration laws and then reward those who have, that he has violated his oath of office?

Is there any reason why he should remain as president if he violates his oath of office? Is that not grounds for impeachment?

..PM, I agree with much of that

But it is too late in the game to change coaches, and it would do more damage to the nation to let this Genie out of the bottle.

Let's just work like crazy the next year and a half for candidates and causes that reflect conservatism in the full sense of the word...

It is never too late to impeach a wretched president. Impeachment does not mean automatic removal from office (i.e., clinton). The cowardly Senate would have to get 67 votes to have him removed. That will never happen. An impeachment would, however, put a much deserved stain on President Bush's legacy.

If he is going to destroy our nation through this foolish Amnesty plan, we need to let our posterity know that there were people who opposed it. Otherwise they will be pissing on our graves for the next 1000 years for allowing this to happen.

..your venom is counter-productive PM

It is time that Americans stood up for America. Playing nice has gotten us nothing.

--it's time for prayer..

Venom and prayer are not mutually exclusive.

THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. Thomas Payne

“Et tu Jon Kyl?’

Call one of his local offices. They are getting hammered on this and the phones are ringing off the desks. NO ONE likes this. Kyle should listen to the public.
