Duncan Hunter speaks with White House on Senate Bill
Cnn/Lou Dobbs ^ | May 17, 2007 | Lou Dobbs Transcript

Posted on 05/17/2007 7:00:12 PM PDT by AuntB

But the president may be on a collision course with fellow conservatives in his party. Republican congressman Duncan Hunter just emerged from a meeting here with the president. As you know, his district in California is right on the U.S.-Mexico border, in San Diego.

Congressman Hunter told me he is making it clear to the White House he thinks this is a rotten deal.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER (R), CALIFORNIA: Listen, we passed my bill in October that calls for 854 miles of border fence across Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The Senate bill cuts my fence in half, literally takes it down to 370 miles.

That's going to do a lot to damage enforcement on the border. You have to have an enforceable border. The Senate bill takes us the wrong way.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HENRY: Now, Congressman Hunter also told me that he told the president that out of the 854 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border that is supposed to be built, mandated in that law passed last year, only two miles have actually been built. Congressman Hunter said he told that to the president and the president seemed surprised -- Lou.

DOBBS: Surprised. Why would he be surprised?

HENRY: Well, certainly, he's been getting reports suggesting that they're making a lot of progress on that. And Duncan Hunter said he pressed him and said that he needs to check back into it because he doesn't think progress is being made -- Lou.

DOBBS: Well, one would think that if you're coming up about 852 miles short over the course of six months, not even by government standards would that be considered progress.

Ed Henry, thank you very much, reporting from the White House.

I Like Tancredo, but it seems he gets a lot of border gravitas when it is Duncan Hunter who is on the front lines of this issue. As I write this, yet another “immigration protest” is taking place in LA, and I think I heard Martin Sheen mentioned. We really need to start taking our country back, the Dummycrats and Rinos have already allowed things to progress to the point, that moving in the right direction is going to get ugly quick. We have allowed ourselves, as Americans to be extorted, not only abroad, but here at home. IF I seem a bit PO’d, a little disgusted, that is only because I am.

Wow. I must be a telepath. I was at work thinking about the amnesty bill earlier today, fantasizing about Hunter going to the White House to speak his mind on this bill to President Bush...and what do you know, he does that very thing!

Duncan Hunter: A Man of Words and Action. He's the one we need in the White House! (And kudos to Tancredo and Fred for slamming this amnesty bill as well, as it should.)

I’m now listening to a replay of Mark Levin’s radio show, and he said he couldn’t get a copy of the bill.

Are they trying to hide something?

Over the past year or so, I have wondered what I would say if I spoke to a pollster. Would I say I approve of Bush's job performance, or would I say I disapprove and let the CNN morons spin that into a claim that the war on Iraq is dragging Bush down. The fact is, Bush's numbers reflect that 20 percent or more feel that he has not been conservative enough. Dems are not the answer to that problem.

Anyway, as of today, there is no question in my mind. I would say "disapprove".

Good for Hunter.

In the debate the other night, or in the interview afterwards, Hunter said that the fence was funded. That the money was appropriated for it. Now that is the opposite of what we've been told. Someone's been lying and I don't think it's Duncan Hunter.

Duncan just hangs in there and does his job. Over 25 years of good record on this issue.

All this means is that we have to win the next election. If we don’t, the Dems will have their amnesty.

I heard from my cousin in Iraq that construction of the U.S. Embassy and 3 new bases are proceeding briskly. But the Iraqi borders remain as porous as ever. Sound familiar?

I never thought I would say something like this, but GWB IS far worse then Bill Clinton. He is worse the Jimmy Carter and as bad as LBJ.

Don’t care if you disagree or not. His record proves it.

I think they purposely make these bills long, so many won’t have the time to read them.

Also, after Mark Levin said he couldn’t get a copy of the bill to read, he played a clip of one of the senators say that “critics” of the bill had not read it. Duh.

It just amazes me. Any military fool knows the first thing you do is secure your perimeter, your borders. ((shaking head)))

Even I, a staunch supporter these past years, has had it. He and the rest of the aristocrats have no idea what they are sowing but if they do sow it, they will reap the whirlwind in 2008. That I can damn well guarantee.

Even I, a supporter in the beginning, have had it. He and the rest of the aristocrats have no idea what they are sowing but if they do sow it, they and more importantly, you and I, will reap the whirlwind in 2008. That I can damn well guarantee.

We the citizens won't be able to afford the store brand of green beans. Taxes, taxes, taxes to pay for this abomination. It's another step in the advance toward the North American Union. This amnesty, and that is exactly what it is, ((( a rose by any other name....))) will make those millions who are here and the millions to come, special citizens. Why special, because they receive our hard earned money we actually thought we were contributing to OUR retirement. Ha, what a joke. I can't take any more of this right now. I'm too ticked off.

NO ONE has seen this bill yet. It is being written as we speak. I heard Mark @ 6..it is worth staying up to listen to it ALL.

http://www.redstate.com

~snip~

We are not sure whether we are for or against the proposed immigration bill. We are not sure because no one has seen it. No one will see it until tomorrow at the earliest, at which point Senator Reid intends to promptly push the legislation through the Senate — even taking the unheardof step of bypassing the Judiciary Committee.

A bill which is being written tonight, and which will exceed 1,000 pages according to many reports, will be voted on at the beginning of next week without ever going through the process of committee review and hearings.

Not only that, but the bill will most likely not appear online and accessible to the public until after the legislation has passed. Why the rush? Senator Reid, the Democrats, and even the President and a number of Republicans are scared of the American people’s reaction. They want to have this ordeal behind them before they go home to face the voters on Memorial Day.

~snip~
