Duncan Hunter speaks with White House on Senate Bill
Cnn/Lou Dobbs ^ | May 17, 2007 | Lou Dobbs Transcript

Posted on 05/17/2007 7:00:12 PM PDT by AuntB

But the president may be on a collision course with fellow conservatives in his party. Republican congressman Duncan Hunter just emerged from a meeting here with the president. As you know, his district in California is right on the U.S.-Mexico border, in San Diego.

Congressman Hunter told me he is making it clear to the White House he thinks this is a rotten deal.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER (R), CALIFORNIA: Listen, we passed my bill in October that calls for 854 miles of border fence across Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The Senate bill cuts my fence in half, literally takes it down to 370 miles.

That's going to do a lot to damage enforcement on the border. You have to have an enforceable border. The Senate bill takes us the wrong way.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HENRY: Now, Congressman Hunter also told me that he told the president that out of the 854 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border that is supposed to be built, mandated in that law passed last year, only two miles have actually been built. Congressman Hunter said he told that to the president and the president seemed surprised -- Lou.

DOBBS: Surprised. Why would he be surprised?

HENRY: Well, certainly, he's been getting reports suggesting that they're making a lot of progress on that. And Duncan Hunter said he pressed him and said that he needs to check back into it because he doesn't think progress is being made -- Lou.

DOBBS: Well, one would think that if you're coming up about 852 miles short over the course of six months, not even by government standards would that be considered progress.

Ed Henry, thank you very much, reporting from the White House.

Seriously if El Presidente came out tomorrow and said he’s building a 3K mile fence, and deporting all illegals his approval would be over 50% over night.

And for his service he is rewarded with 1-2 % in most national polls. He is the candidate everyone sits around and fantasizes about pre-election, and now that he is here in living color? Right, he isn’t electable, and why not? He hasn’t had his metrosexual makeover? Hasn’t flopped like a carp on the issues? Isn’t socially liberal enough or returned any Saudi money (no Saudi would dare offer him any anyway). He hasn’t written up a “Bill of Rights” for terrorists or been concerned enough about their torture ( some guys pay good money to have panties put on their heads)? Pardon the rant, but when I get mad, I get crazy, ummmm, errrrr, I mean craziER. :)

President Bush will now set new lows for Presidential Approval ratings. Even I, a staunch supporter these past years, has had it. He and the rest of the aristocrats have no idea what they are sowing but if they do sow it, they will reap the whirlwind in 2008. That I can damn well guarantee.

I just keep remembering how, on election night in 2006, when it became obvious that the GOP was going down, President Bush said something like, "I look forward to working with the Democratic Congress on issues like immigration."

Do you feel like you've been had? I do.

“What? Is Bush out of the loop?”

Not by a long shot is Bush out of the loop on this. He already speaks Spanish.

Seriously if El Presidente came out tomorrow and said he’s building a 3K mile fence, and deporting all illegals his approval would be over 50% over night.

Unfortunately, if Bush said that, he would mean a 3 Kilometer fence and with his amnesty there would be no illegals to deport.

“All this means is that we have to win the next election. If we don’t, the Dems will have their amnesty.”

DEMS???? Who the hell do you think is going to run to sign this travesty? Bush, that’s who!

Absolutely! IF we knew Bush would veto there wouldn’t be a problem. He will sign it if it gets passed and as I have been warning for a year now; When you see or hear “comprehensive” beware, because they are going to try to sneak one past us.

This is bad on so many levels. I sure hope it’s the beginning of a backlash that lets Duncan Hunter surf the wave into the presidency.

Why do we need a trigger after 370 miles. Build the whole thing first, then let’s talk.

If the bill passes, there will be amnesty. The next election is too late to stop it. Bush will sign it.

I wonder if Cheney supports this crap.

I've always wondered about this too. Deep down Cheney is probably disgusted, IMO.
