Congrats to your son. I know he will have a ball. The Coast Guard was my home for 26 years and I loved it. Never served on anything as small as the patrol boats but I sure your son will enjoy it. I know you are proud of him.

Semper Paratus to the young fella.

These hot new 110’ PB’s are probably a fair bit improved over the 95’ Cape class PB I got to take a ride on while I was in the USCG (71-74). He’ll love it.

Godspeed to him and I will rest easy knowing he is serving our country w/ honor!!

Good luck to him! I was on the Ohio aboard the USCG Oleander. The Coast Guard made a man of me. We worked hard and sometimes it was dangerous but I made lifelong friends. Never was an open sea sort of sailor but being a river rat was one of the best times of my life.

The 110’s are fine boats. He’ll have some petty good stories to tell some day. I was a Coastie for 23 years. Best thing I ever did! Tim CWO3 USCG (Ret)

Is this one of the cutters that underwent the hull extension? I heard that the CG basically has 4 cutters that can’t be used because the hull extension has weakened the structural integrity of the vessel — decks are buckling, etc.

I don’t think it is. My friend’s son is an LT and was an exec on one of the cutters going through this retrofit. I seem to recall that they started with a 110 footer & made it longer. I believe the work was done in Baltimore, however.

My niece is on her maiden patrol on the patrol boat “AHI” out of Honolulu.

She attended Class A Mechanic school at Yorktown this spring. Really proud of her. Just got E-4! Took me 2-1/2 years in the Air Force!

Plank Owner congrats to your son.

I was Navy but was was assigned to support CG Adm. Yost when he was Commander Atlantic area just before he became Commandant. I was his Intel briefer for two weeks during a JCS exercise. A great man with a great mind.
