Armed locals thwart terrorist attack in Duluiyah Friday, 18 May 2007 Multi-National Corps – Iraq Public Affairs Office, Camp Victory APO AE 09342

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20070518-05 May 18, 2007

Armed locals thwart terrorist attack in Duluiyah Multinational Division – North PAO

TIKRIT, Iraq – Local citizens rushed to the aid of Iraqi policemen in southern Duluiyah and successfully defended an IP checkpoint from a terrorist attack, just northeast of Balad, Iraq, May 12.

Terrorists launched an attack on the IP checkpoint at approximately 11 p.m.. In response to the attack, 20 armed men from a nearby neighborhood assembled and quickly came to the aid of the policemen manning checkpoint. This grass roots effort contributed a significant impact in thwarting the attack, said Maj. John Throckmorton, operations officer, 3rd Combined Arms Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.

A reaction force from 1st Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Iraqi Army Division, also responded to the attack as reports flowed to the Iraqi-manned Balad Joint Coordination Center.

“Iraqi emergency response procedures worked well at every level, from the initial report to coordination through the [JCC] to the response of the Iraqi army. The fact that local citizens also responded according to a plan they developed for neighborhood defense is very encouraging and demonstrates how fed up communities are with terrorist attacks and threats,” said Lt. Col. Kevin Dunlop, commander of the 3rd Combined Arms Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment.

“This response is part of a continuing trend of local Iraqis taking responsibility for their own security and decisively ejecting terrorists from their neighborhoods,” said Throckmorton.

I had a conversation with a coworker today who only pays attention to the Lame Stream Media. His perspective on Iraq is that our soldiers are fighting the terrorist alone and that the Iraqi people don’t want the U.S. military in their country. He keeps insisting that it is a “Civil War” and that we need to leave. It’s so typical of too many Americans that they buy into the spin of the media and don’t look for other sources of information.

They're too busy stressing over who's going to win American Idol and Survivor and stuff.

I've had FReepers get quite huffy with me when I counter the media and try to tell them what's really going on.

For example, this is not the first time the Iraqis have stood up to and thwarted the terrorists. But it just never seems to make the news, does it?

Neither do those peaceful demonstrations where masses of people are denouncing terrorism and Wahabiism. Or the countless Iraqis who risk their lives every day to rat out terrorists in their communities to the military.

Amazing, isn't it? It almost makes one think that the media might be slanted. You know....have an agenda.

But that just couldn't be, could it? ;-)

Excellent news....there must come this point when the Iraqis choose to defend their own. So many years of “nothing but bad” to overcome and relearn.

According to some people the news media is way too conservative. But, I’ve yet to see much in the way of positive coverage for Republicans or conservatives in this country. But, like you say, there just can’t be any agenda out there, right?

Katie Couric didn't report anything like this. It must not have happened. Iraq is a quagmire. No more blood for oil.

Great find SoldierDad!

When my son was serving in Iraq, he wrote home in reference to some of the Iraqi soldiers he had trained and soldiered with...”I never would have thought a year ago that some of these guys would turn out to be my best friends” He said many times that befriending the Iraq civilians would one day pay off. Now we can see it....loud and clear!!

Allegra....you are absolutely right on!!

I simply can’t stomach the LSM!!! When flying back to, “These Colors Don’t Run” and “Gathering of Eagles” stand in DC,
I sat by a young black man, probably in his mid to late twenties, tell me that the media was monopolized by the Republicans....he was from Chicago.....go figure, huh? So many Americans are pathetically deceived...it’s really sad, but will eventually lead to the demise of this country, maybe sooner that we think!!
