McCain, Cornyn Engage in Heated Exchange (F-Bomb)
Washington Post ^ | 05/18/2007 | Paul Kane

Posted on 05/18/2007 4:27:35 PM PDT by Responsibility2nd

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) hasn't spent much time in the Capitol this year as he seeks the GOP presidential nomination. But one of his rare appearances this week provided a pretty salty exchange with a fellow Republican.

During a meeting Thursday on immigration legislation, McCain and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) got into a shouting match when Cornyn started voicing concerns about the number of judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could receive, according to multiple sources -- both Democrats and Republicans -- who heard firsthand accounts of the exchange from lawmakers who were in the room.

At a bipartisan gathering in an ornate meeting room just off the Senate floor, McCain complained that Cornyn was raising petty objections to a compromise plan being worked out between Senate Republicans and Democrats and the White House. He used a curse word associated with chickens and accused Cornyn of raising the issue just to torpedo a deal.

Things got really heated when Cornyn accused McCain of being too busy campaigning for president to take part in the negotiations, which have gone on for months behind closed doors. "Wait a second here," Cornyn said to McCain. "I've been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You're out of line."

McCain, a former Navy pilot, then used language more accustomed to sailors (not to mention the current vice president, who made news a few years back after a verbal encounter with Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont).

"[Expletive] you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room," shouted McCain at Cornyn. McCain helped craft a bill in 2006 that passed the Senate but couldn't be compromised with a House bill that was much tougher on illegal immigrants.

I was interested in McCain when he ran against Bush, so I went to see him when he came to town. He walked within a couple of feet and seemed completely phony to me. Although there were several hundred of us there he lost control of the meeting to whiny vets. I left early.

"After making a few comments, McCain left the Capitol to head to New York for presidential campaign events. Later that day, McCain missed his 43rd straight vote, this on the $2.9 trillion budget outline."

That is an outrage. McGhost is collecting a paycheck for being a Senator, but isnt showing up for work. If I (or anyone with a job outside of politcs) missed 43 consecutive meetings to go out and promote myself for a better job .... well.. Id be fired. This idiot is nuts.

I’ve questioned McCain’s emotional stability since the 2000 election. This stuff doesn’t do much to convince me otherwise. I’m all for waxing eloquently on occasion, but he has a tendency to come unhinged and unstable. Quite frankly, I got a little concerned at his demeanor at the first debate. Dude seriously needs to do yoga or something. That being said, he’s a great war hero and I’ll never begrudge him that. I’m sure he’s a good person who means well, but I won’t vote for him for too many reasons to count.

He may have been a military hero once, but now he's merely a disgrace.

The definition of "hero" has warped over time. All military warriors are heroes because they put their lives on the line for their nation, but getting shot down and taken POW doesn't somehow make McCrazy more of a hero than anybody else.

McCain....
Survived in a position of public trust far longer than I thought possible...

Corruption proved during the Keating Savings and Loan scandal didn’t destroy him...

His traitorous behavior during the Senate hearings with Kerry on normalization of relations with Vietnam and the acceptance of the Communist’s “accounting” of KNOWN POWs who were never repatriated - and his treatment of POW/MIA families -— led many of us to believe the Communists in Vietnam had some information or video tape they were using to “control” McCain...

McCain’s support of Kerry while Kerry was under fire from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth — and McCain’s condemnation of the SBVFT, sat very badly with many veterans.

McCain’s attacks against the 1st Amendment prior to elections - with the McCain/Feingold attack on free speech was a Marxist attempt to stifle political competition to preserve his own position..

McCain’s 15 minutes of fame - purchased with a dubious record has lasted decades too long...

Time for the sonuvabitch to go...

Consider excerpting with more opportunities. I would have included:

"After making a few comments, McCain left the Capitol to head to New York for presidential campaign events. Later that day, McCain missed his 43rd straight vote, this on the $2.9 trillion budget outline."

A lot of folks won't make the link to the entire article because of the source, e.g. this one, NY Times, LA Times, etc.

One way to deal with that is to omit the trivia and include such juicy tidbits.

Go, Cornyn! I'm also waiting to hear more from John Kyl on this bill.

Who knows, as the deal fleshes out and attention is focused, we might be able to turn some of the RINO stampede on this shamnesty.

One does get a little weary of the endless re-runs of the same tired script from the GOP:

Senator 1: "Ted Kennedy says we must have comprehensive immigration reform."
Senator 2: "Okay. But we need to make sure it doesn't look like an amnesty and we can lie to all the pundits about it."
Senator 3: "So now we'll stage a little scene for the cameras, showing us all working hard and saying tough things to each other while in reality, we're porking each other for all we're worth."
Lindsey Graham: "But I'm just a moron. When can get in front of the cameras again?"
Senator 1: "Oh, shut up, Lindsey!"
RINO senators stampede themselves into a giddy lather, introduce another amnesty bill just like the last one (RINO chorus): "We took out all that nasty amnesty stuff and now we all love how tough it is!"
House Republicans: "TREASON! IT'S ANOTHER AMNESTY!!"
Senate RINOS (unison): "IS NOT!!!"
Senator 4: "McCain, where have you parachuted in from?"
McStain (a "Here's Johnny" moment): "F--- you. I know more about this than anyone in the room. What room?"
...
It really does get a bit dreary after a while.

Cornyn was my Senator until I move to Florida last year. I have met him, and he is a straight-arrow person. He says what he means and means what he says.

Big difference between McVain and Sam Johnson is that McVain, the son of former CINCPAC Admiral McCain, grew up in privilege and has always had a sense of entitlement--Sam Johnson didn't and doesn't. McVain, like Senator sKerry (who also has a sense of entitlement), married money and has used that money to pursue his political career.

BTW, I haven't noticed much, if any support for McVain from any of the former POWs who were in the Hanoi Hilton with him. That, to me, says a lot about him.
