EHRAN (AFP) - Iran said on Friday the United States should admit to the "failure" of its Iraq policies at the upcoming Tehran-Washington meeting on Iraqi security if it wants the talks to make progress.

"If the Americans admit to the failure of their policies in Iraq, have a serious will to correct the current situation, and help the Iraqi people and government to implement security there, these talks can progress and create hope," Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters.

This is sad, but probably true.

The War on Terror is in its third phase, when continued military pressure must be brought on the nations continuing the fight.

Only continued military action can preserve the victory of the recent battles.

Without pressure, the resisting nations will continue to support terror, and the US will be reduced to playing defense, the weakest form of warfare.

The US made a terrible strategic blunder when it failed to invade Syria when it had the chance.

If the US invades Syria, this war is easily won.

Why?

First, the invasion of Syria would be consistent with the doctrine that the US will attack countries that support terrorism.

Second, it removes a sanctuary for the terrorists.

Third, invading Syria would’ve clearly stated to Iran that they will next on the list of targeted states.

Fourth, the Bekaa Valley would be eliminated as a source of terror.

Unless the US can find - or construct - a cause for war with Syria, and then follow up with action, this war cannot be won.

We’ll just have to come back later and do all this again.

Sad, but true.
