But Remember, They Support The Troops
Iowa Voice ^ | May 18, 2007

Democrats keep saying how they support the troops, but not the war, right? If that’s true, then how do they explain this?

Susan Jaenke traveled to Washington last month to ask lawmakers for help after her daughter was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. Before her death, Navy reservist Jaime Jaenke wrote a letter to her mother, telling her she wanted the military’s $100,000 “death gratuity” to be given to her parents to help raise her daughter, Kayla.

Says it all...

If Democrats support the troops so much, then why, may I ask, did they block this bill? Simple. It’s not about their so-called support, and it never was. It never will be, either. It’s about one thing: power. The power to control everything. Most importantly, it’s about “getting even” for every perceived injustice they had to face over the last twelve years (of course to them, the mere fact that they were in the minority was an injustice). They had their little attempt to turn this country into a socialist state interrupted, and now it’s payback time.

Nope, they could have helped people like this family, but instead they told them, in so many words, to piss off. “Sorry, but we’re too busy trying to surrender to al Qaeda at the moment. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have some lobbyists to cozy up to. Campaign promises? What are those? Never heard of ‘em.”

In other words, it’s that typical Democrat display of “compassion” you hear so much about, but almost NEVER see. But don’t question whether or not they truly “care”, because…well, they SAY they care…isn’t that enough??

NEVER EVER VOTE DEMOCTATIC PARTY!

Shouldn't the $400 SGLI be enough? The $100K in trust ensures that at least something will be left when she turns 18. I don't believe the parents can't raise the girl on $400K. But, if the woman failed to update the SGLI form to designate the parents first, is this really a problem that requires congressional action to fix?

So how can you support the troops, but not support America?

As in, how can the Republican Party, sell us out?

Ronald Reagan, where are you?

It looks like the slain sailor only gets to pass on $100k. In the event of my death, my parents would receive $250k. I could have bequeathed $400k, but then that’s additional money I would lose each pay period, and I didn’t think it was worth it. My parents would hardly be affected at all, financially, if I were killed. Yes, I might have a family one day, but $250k should be plenty.

Isn’t the child eligible for Social Security benefits as a dependent child whose parent died? There’s no mention of the child’s father in this article, so I’m assuming he is out of the picture and unwilling or unable to provide support. The article also doesn’t say how old the grandparents are. It only says the mother’s paycheck as a Reservist was helping to make ends meet back home. How were they surviving before she was activated and shipped out? It’s a sad thought, but there are people who will abuse a death benefit. I’m not saying these people will do that, but there needs to be a way to guarantee in cases like this, that death benefits are used for the actual support of an orphaned child, and not put in the hands of individuals who will piss it away.

My thoughts are much the same as yours. There are a host of other benefits. (VA DIC, VA Education, SS, Survivor Benefits) The more I think about this the more I worry its just greed on the part of the grandparents. May be wrong and would not be the first time. Just a gut.

It could be greed on the part of the grandparents. But MUCH more likely just stupidity on the part of the “reporter” who is too stupid to figure these things out. Common sense says SS benefits, and with a question or two, all the other benefits come out into the open.
This child could and probably is the recipient of a LOT of money.
And the mom surely didn’t turn down the higher SGLI since she had a child. and $400,000 can surely pay for the next 8 or so years of the child’s life. %50,000/year?? I think so!

The article only mentions the 100,000 death gratuity and makes no mention of SGLI, the life insurance plan military members are required to purchase. The minimum is 150,000 i think but most headed to Iraq opt for the full 400,000 coverage.

Did the parents receive the 400,000 and are now trying to pry their hands onto that extra 100,000???

Guess we will never know because this reporter is a moron!

THE CONGRESS OR THE WHITE HOUSE CAN NOT BE TRUSTED IN THE HANDS OF THE DEMOCRATS. WE LEARNED THIS FACT LAST NOVEMBER.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS HEAR SOME OLD TV SHOWS LIKE “ALL IN THE FAMILY”.
THE REPUBLICANS HAPPENED TO BE IN POWER AND THE LIBERALS CLEVERLY TRIED TO RIP AND SHRED THE REPUBLICANS TO BITS.
I LOOK BACK AT THAT OLD SHOW AND REALIZE WHY I AM A CONSERVATIVE.
YESTERDAY THE DEMOCRATS HAD LOFTY GOALS BUT THE PEOPLE DID NOT WANT THEM.
TODAY THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE LOFTY IDEALS JUST LOADS OF MONEY.
THANK GOD FOR YESTERYEAR AND WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM THE ‘PEOPLES’ PARTY AND LETS HOPE WE CAN SAY THE SAME IN 2008.
IF NOT SOCIALISM IS GOING TO REAR IT’S UGLY HEAD.
