When it's in bipartisan mode on an issue on which the public is diametrically opposed, that looks less like bipartisanship and more like the lockstep myopia of an out-of-touch one-party state. - Mark Steyn "Capitulation, from A------to Z"

Capitulation, from A------ to Z (Mark Steyn)

Are you a fine upstanding member of the Undocumented-American community? That's to say, are you (if you'll forgive the expression) an illegal immigrant?

Great news! Being illegal is now perfectly legal! Just for being one of the circa 12 million people who shouldn't be here, you can now be here indefinitely! If you were living and working in America illegally before Jan. 1, 2007, you're now entitled to one of the new Z-1 "probationary" visas. And your parents and spouses are entitled to one of the new Z-2 visas, and your children to the new Z-3 visas.

Don't worry: It's not an "amnesty." Every politician in America is opposed to amnesty -- if not the concept, then at least the word.

[Snip]

As for the notion that dumping a population the size of four mid-size European Union nations into the lap of America's arthritic "legal immigration" (please, no tittering; apparently, there is still such a thing) bureaucracy will lead to tougher enforcement and rigorous scrutiny and lots of other butch-sounding stuff, well, if that were the case, there wouldn't be a problem in the first place. You can declare that "illegal" now mean "legal" very easily; to mandate that "incompetent" now means "competent" is a tougher proposition.

But, as John McCain declared, "This is what the legislative process is all about" -- and in the sense that it's a sloppily drafted bottomless pit of unintended consequences on a potentially cosmic scale whose sweeping "reforms" will inevitably require even more sweeping reforms of the reforms in a year or two's time, he's quite right. Also, as Senator McCain says, "This is what bipartisanship is all about."

It's used frequently because it's accurate frequently. The whole bunch in DC and in most of our state capitols are nothing but power-hungry, preening politicians who care nothing for the country. A pox on the lot of them!

Don't Be Fooled (on this immigration bill) by Heather MacDonald
The Corner National Review ^ | 05/17 06:40 PM | Heather Mac Donald

Posted on 05/18/2007 11:17:03 AM EDT by dennisw

Don't Be Fooled [Heather Mac Donald]

Republican supporters of the Senate’s latest amnesty bill are trying to distract voters by dangling before them the requirements for an illegal alien to become a citizen or purchase a green card. These requirements make this bill a tough, no-cave-in reform, proponents say, that responds to the public’s outrage over immigration law-breaking. Don’t be fooled. Prerequisites to citizenship or permanent residency status are irrelevant to whether this bill rewards law-breaking or will encourage more in the future. Its key feature is rather that illegal aliens, according to press reports, can immediately have their illegal status wiped away with a temporary-residency permit, available virtually upon demand. That’s it. The rest is noise. Whether or not one has to show English proficiency and a knowledge of civics to become a citizen is irrelevant from an illegal alien’s perspective; a minute proportion of illegal or even legal Mexican and Central American immigrants come here with the desire to become citizens. The naturalization rate among qualified Hispanics has traditionally been negligible compared to other national groups; it started rising only when Congress required citizenship to receive welfare benefits.

There is no ambiguity about the effects of amnesty. Everywhere they have been introduced—including in Europe—they have brought in their train a new flood of illegals. This latest bill will do the same.

I've been attempting to fax Mel, bill nelson & Vern Buchanan since last night.

I've tried Buchanans Sarasota fax # also, but I only get a message stating his office hours.

What we should keep in mind is that the Senate is an elite club and that only a select group of people make it into that club. Once there, they are beholden to no one other than themselves. We certainly don't count. Why should we, we are not a part of the club. It's like high school with the coolest kids all belonging to a clique. You might find yourself sitting next to one in English class and he/she might talk to you occasionally, but it's usually to get last night's homework. Otherwise, they wouldn't be seen dead hanging with you. Well, we are on the outside looking in, and they couldn't care less what we want or think. By the time most of them are up for re-election most Americans will have forgotten this anyway.

I was so discouraged yesterday. I saw a group of neighbors gathered in a group, and I had hoped that they were discussing immigration, but no, they were talking about the weather and the additional gasoline tax our county wants to impose. When I brought up this immigration bill all of them shrugged their shoulders and the general consensus was, "Oh well, they're already here might as well let them stay." Everyone was against it, but no one seemed willing to do anything about it. We're finished.

I was on an Irish site last evening and they were discussing this immigration bill. The are an estimated 500,000 to 750,000 illegal Irish in this country. The advice from the Irish embassy was for the illegals to file for th "Z" visa as soon as possible. So the Irish embassy knows that there are Irish here illegally and are offering to assist their citizens to break our laws. Finally, one poster pointed out the hypocrisy. They assist their citizens to break our laws but demand that illegals be deported from Ireland. I thought this is mind boggling. Why is it that every country in this world thinks it has the right to invade ours? Round them up and send them the hell home, where ever home maybe.

The message sent by the picture does not portray the mirth, the joy, the levity, the laughter, the heady success, it would seem exists. Rather it sends a chilling message of blissful ignorance, outright treason, arrogance beyond belief, and willful destruction of everything an American might hold dear. If they succeed, in their mission, only God knows what awaits. Somehow excited doesn’t seem to explain how I feel about the future.

We've come a long way since the 1920's, when Congress actually tried to put limits on legal immigration. Now they won't even try to limit illegal immigration.

"“The United States of America, a nation great in all things, is ours today. To whom will it belong tomorrow? . . . The United States is our land. If it was not the land of our fathers, at least it may be, and it should be, the land of our children. We intend to maintain it so. The day of unalloyed welcome to all people, the day of indiscriminate acceptance of all races, has definitely ended.” —Representative Albert W. Johnson (R-PA)

Are you one of America’s politicians who voted for amnesty which really isn’t amnesty in your mind?

Great, you have just made the list for deportation to of all countries, Mexico. Since you have no idea what the rule of law means, we, the American people, figure you do understand the laws or should I say rule of Mexico. What better place for you?

You realize that you have terminated your rights to be an American citizen, therefore, will not have free access to a money spigot as you do here in the United States. You will have to live on your own. No special treatment, no money, maybe living with no shelter on the streets or the beach in Kennedy’s case since we know he has a special knowledge of water. You will have to find your own food, maybe with a job as a street sweeper(which is honorable in my opinion). That should help any of you on a diet or should be on one.

You should know that the fence has been built so no sneaking into our great land and any monies you possessed here legal or illegal is no longer yours as we have redistributed to the many illegals that have come to this country before January, 2007. That alone should well compensate our illegal friends.

We Americans wish you well in your new life and hope that you can explain the the Mexican police who arrest you for a crime you did not commit. Have a great life or some kind of life if that’s what you call it and hasta luego.
