Conferred by whom?

Our "rights" are not given to us by anyone. They do not exist except in our heads. We choose to respect the rights of others in exchange for others respecting our rights. It is the mental framework of a prosperous society. The most basic right is to be secure in ones property. With out property rights nothing else matters.

Amazing how hard folks like you have to work to not see what Thomas Jefferson and the other Founders called "self-evident."

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Our rights to life, liberty and private property are not "conferred" by any man. They are the gift of the One Who made us. That's why they are inalienable.

Wrong. The most basic right is the right to live, for without the right to live, all other rights are meaningless fantasies.

It is the mental framework of a prosperous society.

Without reliance upon the Creator, and adherence to his principles, there is no lasting framework of any sort for a prosperous, a free, or a just society. It is the equivilent of building your house on the sand. First storm that arises will sweep it all away forever.
