The institutions that used to assist immigrants in assimilating, school and church, have now decided that immigrants shouldn't have to assimilate.

Me too, the e-mails and faxes are a flyin!

The foreign elements must have a desire to assimilate or the host nation must place pressure on them to do so.

It's a pity that so many out there are so quick to call you a bigot if you suggest that the foreigners assimilate.

I just got off the phone from Senator’s Cornyn and Kay Baily’s Hutchinson’s office......NEITHER ONE are sure how they are going to vote. The GOP can forget any support from this family if this bill is passed and that is what I told them. As for the z-card being tamper proof, that’s a laugh. Anything the government produces can and will be forged. All I can see is my country circling the drain with these spineless senators in power.

The author is wrong. Immigrants do not assimilate today because of ONE FACTOR...liberals.

Liberals become advocates for immigrants because they can secure additional federal and non-profit aid in which to create their own little power fiefdoms. Liberals use immigrants for moral leverage, that is, anyone questioning their motives are racists, and because their motives are “pure” they are entitled to drive most any agenda.

Finally, liberal use immigrants as the new wave of entitlement slaves. “Vote for us and we’ll keep the federal cash coming your way.”

Ted Kennedy's Immigration Reform Act of 1965 has created a situation in which 85 percent of our immigrants hail from the Third World and Asia.

Does it really need to be said how evil Ted Kennedy is?

Why should Immigrants assimilate if they have their liberal protectors telling them that America is evil and that the nation to ask them to assimilate is morally wrong because they (liberals) hate what America stands for. To demand that Immigrants speak English and to assimilate is racism and liberals are not afraid to level such accusations against anyone who dares question this?

Is there any wonder why Immigrants don’t assimilate today? Back at the turn of the century if Immigrants didn’t assimilate they either remained at the bottom of the economic ladder, or they got their chops busted a few times until they got it straight.

Now with liberals to coddle them and provide them with handouts, there is less need or incentive to assimilate.

Secure Borders and Immigration Reform Without Amnesty
by Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn

Published in a number of Texas newspapers the week of May 21, 2007

As your U.S. Senators, we have been heavily involved in the Congressional debate on immigration reform for several years. We have taken a leadership role on this issue because we represent a state that uniquely benefits from the contributions of legal immigrants, but is also uniquely vulnerable to the dangers of illegal immigration. Throughout, this process, our principles have been clear and consistent: We must secure our borders, and we cannot encourage illegal behavior through amnesty.

I also don’t like the 1965 ‘reform’ act.
But
to be practical, yes, the Mexicans ARE assimilating, and the pattern is just like others before them. THEY continue to speak Spanish; but their KIDS are learning English. Surveys show the kids prefer English-language stations (radio) to Spanish; and the kids act as interpreters for their parents (as happened with previous immigrant groups). Trade and technical schools are packed with hispanics who don’t want to flip burgers all their lives.
There will continue to be “little Mexico’s”, just as there have been “little Italys” and other ethnic neighborhoods before; but overall, yes, the NEXT GENERATION will be English-speaking and assimilated.
As for the Koreans, many are Christian, and have expressed the desire to help bring America back to its Christian roots. (They are about as un-PC as they come.) Vietnamese stoutly defend the freedoms fought for in the Vietnam war and have opposed having Jane Fonda on campuses.
Whether we should just grant everyone in the world the right to live in the USA is another question...

not many Europeans would be coming here even if we had more liberal immigration policies

Not true. Europeans are effectively barred from immigrating to the U.S. now in any numbers because Family Reunification became the dominant component of immigration law after 1965. Few Americans had identifiable close family anymore in Europe since it has been generations from when their ancestors immigrated.

There are high unemployment rates in Western Europe and much of Eastern Europe excluding Russia. Polish immigration into Britain is massive right now. They go there because EU rules now allow them to. They might like to come here, but can't, because immigration laws and patterns over the last 40 years favors Mexico and Asia.

The United States is being intentionally re-populated with non-Europeans because the dominant attitude of the elites is that America was illegitimate when it was majority White.

Ted Kennedy will go down in history as having done his level best to ruin this country. And most disgusting of all is that forty-two years later his fat arse is still occuppying that senate seat....

Unfortunately my senator is a traitor. And an idiot.

I'm doubly unfortunate: Boxer and Feinstein.

But the "Little Italy" of today are mostly American-Italians helping the relative small number of Italian immigrants to assimilate.

The "Little Mexico" of today is a permanent fixture of mostly illegal Mexican immigrants not wanting to assimilate, sending money back to Mexico, crossing our unsecured border at will.

Having Christian roots does not immune one of Liberalism and government dependence.

Bunk. And not if Mexico can help it, and you can bet they will do their damndest to make sure it doesn't go down that way.

And if Mexicans in our schools ARE learning English, it's only because us hardliners worked furiously to make that true (think California initiative process).

It sure as hell won't be true because the "don't worry, be happy" crowd did anything.

I think your post shows which group you're in.

Absolutely right! The make up and policy of immigration is purposely being done. Pre 65 immigration was based on existing population make-up. Now we are suppose except a hugely disproportionate amount from Latin America and mostly from Mexico. In addition to that we are supposed to encourage them to keep their own culture and dual allegiance to their home countries. Multiculturalism don’t you know. How to ruin the country without firing a shot.
Not to mention that most of these immigrants come from largely Marxist countries and are much more pliable to the will of the government.

I live in a “Little Italy”. The Archdiocese of Boston screwed the Italian Church that had been in my neighborhood for over 75 years by selling the building to a Haitian Church whose parishioners commute to from Boston. We still have our Feast every year which features the statue of St. Rocco in the street. Some of their parishioners told us to remove the statue from OUR street because it offended them.

around here we still haven’t got the Amish and the old order Mennonites to assimilate yet. They don’t trust us “English” folks or our new inventions.

Interestingly, my father’s Mennonite ancestors escaped to America with no intention of ever learning English or assimilating with the “outsiders”. However the assimilation is pretty much complete. Some from my generation even joined the US military, whereas the previous generation were all C.O.s.
