Path to national suicide (Pat Buchanan on Illegal Immigration)
World Net Daily ^ | May 22, 2007` | Patrick J. Buchanan

Posted on 05/21/2007 11:52:30 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

"At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected?

"I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

So said Abe Lincoln to the Young Men's Lyceum in Springfield. Observing the Senate last week, and looking over the latest figures from the Census Bureau, America is now risking national suicide.

Last week, senators meeting in secret produced a bill to legalize our 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens. If a path to citizenship becomes law, nothing will stop the next invasion. As President Bush acknowledges, 6 million tried to breach our southern border in his first five years. One in 12 – 500,000 – had a criminal record.

According to the Census Bureau, from mid-2005 to mid-2006, the U.S. minority population rose 2.4 million, to exceed 100 million. Hispanics, 1 percent of the population in 1950, are now 14.4 percent. Their total number has soared 25 percent since 2000 alone. The Asian population has also grown by 25 percent since 2000.

The number of white kids of school age fell 4 percent, however. Half the children 5 and younger in the United States are now minorities.

What is happening to us? An immigrant invasion of the United States from the Third World, as America's white majority is no longer even reproducing itself. Since Roe v. Wade, America has aborted 45 million of her children. And Asia, Africa and Latin America have sent 45 million of their children to inherit the estate the aborted American children never saw. God is not mocked.

And white America is in flight.

In the 1990s, for the first time since the Spanish came, whites left California. Two million departed. From July 1, 2005, to July 1, 2006, 100,000 more packed up and headed back whence their fathers came. The "Anglo" population of the Golden State is down to 43 percent and falling fast. White folks are now a minority in Texas and New Mexico. In Arizona, Hispanics account for over half the population under 20.

The future is not in doubt. Why ought this be of concern?

First, while the black and Hispanic population combined is now 85 million – five times what it was in 1960 – half of all black and Hispanic kids drop out of high school. And the average math and reading scores of the half who graduate are at seventh-, eighth- or ninth-grade levels.

And the future is not so sanguine as it seemed 50 years ago. As I write in "State of Emergency":

"In 1960, 18 million black Americans, 10 percent of the nation, were not fully integrated into society, but they had been assimilated into our culture. They worshiped the same God, spoke the same language, had endured the same Depression and war, watched the same TV shows on the same four channels, laughed at the same comedians, went to the same movies, ate the same foods, read the same newspapers and went to schools where, even when segregated, we learned the same history and literature and shared the same holidays: Christmas, New Year's, Washington's Birthday, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Columbus Day. Segregation existed, but black folks were as American as apple pie, having lived in this land longer than almost every other group save the Native Americans.

"That cultural unity, that sense that we were one people, is gone."

Today's immigrants exceed in number anything any nation has ever known. They now come from cultures and countries whose people have never before been assimilated by any First World country. Not only is the Melting Pot broken, it is rejected by our elites. Minorities are urged to hold onto their own language, customs, traditions. Identity politics is in. And the largest cohort, Mexicans, comes from a country with a historic grievance and a claim on the territory they are entering.

Moreover, since the cultural revolution of the 1960s, we have been fighting one another over issues of race and ethnicity, history, heroes and holidays, morality and religion, right and wrong.

All over the Western world, multiethnic, multicultural countries are coming apart over language, ethnicity, history. The Soviet Union broke into 15 nations, Yugoslavia into half a dozen. Czechs and Slovaks divorced. Scots want separation from England. Catalans and Basques seek independence. Corsicans and Bretons want out of France. Northern Italians want to secede. Only immigrants who prefer Ottawa prevent Quebecois from breaking free of Canada.

As we see from the election battles in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Mexico, race and ethnicity are not receding as issues, but rising. In South Central Los Angeles, black and Hispanic gangs are at war over race and turf.

Addressing the Knights of Columbus in 1915, Theodore Roosevelt warned, "The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

In every way possible, Americans have said they do not want to take this risk with their country. Why, then, are our elites taking it?

“It would seem to me that Mexicans are the only ones left who believe in this country.”

I believe in America & thats how I and many other Americans used our freedom of speech to keep this shady Bill slipping in the dark of the night. Mexicans are good, hardworking people. It’s just to bad that they demand more from America then from a mineral, oil, tourist, farm rich land like Mexico.

Research any number of Ron Paul’s comments on blacks, and you’ll find he and Pat Buchanan have much more in common than just fiscal policy. Let’s make sure the big tent is big enough that it doesn’t turn into a white hood. Duncan Hunter is able to espouse everything positive you feel about Ron Paul and Buchanan without being sickening about it. Tancredo is a single issue candidate who isn’t doing a very good job of expressing himself. I am powerless to dispute the brilliance of your tagline though. Well played.

“...without being sickening about it...”.
Ron Paul and Pat are not “sickening”. Your Politically Correct attitude is sickening however.

Americans have said they do not want to take this risk with their country. Why, then, are our elites taking it?

It all boils down to this.

Why is it that so few of us can see what's really going on?

This is so classic. Why is the left so adamant, even though they are getting an amnesty -- an amnesty for illegal aliens being here, PLUS, a tax amnesty to REWARD them for their crimes?

It's so simple. We, having admitted defeat, are now "suing for peace" -- we're tossing bones to appease the growling dogs -- but having smelled blood, they will settle for nothing less than total unconditional defeat.

Surrender.

Remember the original "VJ Day"? Remember Japan being forced to not merely stop fighting, but to accept crushing defeat if they wanted to stop being beaten to a pulp?

Well, today, we are "Japan" -- because by "suing for peace" -- by admitting defeat, and trying to appease our conquerors with gifts such as rewards for having invaded us -- we are telling them that we are defeated. And they will settle for nothing less than a total acknowledgment of that defeat.

What a sad legacy to hand down to our children, and our children's children.

How is not wanting to give the time of day to a man who argues that fighting Hitler was a mistake PC? Or a man who says we brought 9/11 on ourselves? Or who both boil down America’s ills to skin tone? Who longs for a day when blacks contentedly laughed along from the balcony? If that’s PC, then I’m guilty as charged.

Lawrence Auster wrote the same things in 1990. He ahs been ignored yet his prescience is amazing. It's a long read but take the time to read it. If you don't it will be hard to debate this issue without resorting to claims of racism because that's the easy way out.

The Path to National Suicide by Lawrence Auster (1990)

An essay on multi-culturalism and immigration.

Click the Pic!!!!

Excerpt....

How can we account for this remarkable silence? The answer, as I will try to show, is that when the Immigration Reform Act of 1965 was being considered in Congress, the demographic impact of the bill was misunderstood and downplayed by its sponsors. As a result, the subject of population change was never seriously examined. The lawmakers’ stated intention was that the Act should not radically transform America’s ethnic character; indeed, it was taken for granted by liberals such as Robert Kennedy that it was in the nation’s interest to avoid such a change. But the dramatic ethnic transformation that has actually occurred as a result of the 1965 Act has insensibly led to acceptance of that transformation in the form of a new, multicultural vision of American society. Dominating the media and the schools, ritualistically echoed by every politician, enforced in every public institution, this orthodoxy now forbids public criticism of the new path the country has taken. “We are a nation of immigrants,” we tell ourselves— and the subject is closed. The consequences of this code of silence are bizarre. One can listen to statesmen and philosophers agonize over the multitudinous causes of our decline, and not hear a single word about the massive immigration from the Third World and the resulting social divisions. Opponents of population growth, whose crusade began in the 1960s out of a concern about the growth rate among resident Americans and its effects on the environment and the quality of life, now studiously ignore the question of immigration, which accounts for fully half of our population growth.

This curious inhibition stems, of course, from a paralyzing fear of the charge of “racism.” The very manner in which the issue is framed—as a matter of equal rights and the blessings of diversity on one side, versus “racism” on the other—tends to cut off all rational discourse on the subject. One can only wonder what would happen if the proponents of open immigration allowed the issue to be discussed, not as a moralistic dichotomy, but in terms of its real consequences. Instead of saying: “We believe in the equal and unlimited right of all people to immigrate to the U.S. and enrich our land with their diversity,” what if they said: “We believe in an immigration policy which must result in a staggering increase in our population, a revolution in our culture and way of life, and the gradual submergence of our current population by Hispanic and Caribbean and Asian peoples.” Such frankness would open up an honest debate between those who favor a radical change in America’s ethnic and cultural identity and those who think this nation should preserve its way of life and its predominant, European-American character. That is the actual choice—as distinct from the theoretical choice between “equality” and “racism”—that our nation faces. But the tyranny of silence has prevented the American people from freely making that choice.

I’m not accusing Buchanan of being a racist because of how he feels about hispanics, I’m accusing him of being a holocaust minimizer and a segregation nostalgic. I will give it a read though, sounds interesting. I’m young, if you haven’t noticed.

Well obviously you're in the know. Why not enlighten US on what a racist Ron Paul is. Please post links, the burden is on you to back up your allegations. If you can't you'd be better off to STFU. Race baiters don't get a FRee ride. Blackbird.

“I’m still undecided who I’ll vote for in the republican primary. It’s between Paul and Tom Tancredo.” === LOL... two who are even LESS than “also-rans”... Yeah... supporting them will really do a lot of good for the country. Great way to flex your political muscle.

All the 3rd world immigrants 150 years ago really harmed us, didn’t they? Its just the culture of failure. We’re still being haunted by the laziness of those damn peasants. I’m no fan of breaking the law, but these people hustle across the Sonoran desert. When is the last time you even got off your ass?

>>>>>If Pat would just be more open about his racism ...

That is ignorant screwball rhetoric. Pat is no racist. He doesn't approach the issue of immigration from a point of prejudice or bigotry. Buchanan believes that white liberals and their promotion for and support of multiculturalism and political correctness is undermining the future of the good old USA. And I for one agree.

I believe as PJB does that liberal immigration of the last 40+ years has severely damaged many of those things that made us so great, as a people. We the people believe in fair play, we don't believe in handing out freebies --- jobs, welfare, health care --- to foreigners who break American law. The notion of fair play is wonderful. But respect for the laws of this nation is paramount to America expanding its wealth of opportunities to everyone who comes here legally. Open borders destroys US sovereignty and amnesty undermines our judicial system.

America was created for all people who want to live in freedom. America is a place for people from all cultures. OTOH. America is losing its western European influences that built this great nation and modern American liberalism is the direct cause of this destruction. If you can't see that, I submit you're the intolerant one. In fact, you sound like a liberal. Maybe thats your real problem.

Throw in the number of children lost to contraception - we have met the problem and it is us, not the immigrants.

Sorry Pat it is what it is. The world is a nation without borders. It is one big economy. Money rules and those with money rule the most. We exist for pleasure. Sacrifice is for those who volunteer.

Speaking of God, wonder who thanks Him most. Those who hire or those glad to have found an employer.

You should write Pat Buchanan’s columns for him, because what you just said made perfect sense. He was rambling on about blacks and whites watching movies together. As for calling me a liberal? PISTOLS AT DAWN!
