BERLIN, May 23 (Reuters) - Iran must decide whether it wants to cooperate with the international community over its nuclear programme or face harsher sanctions, French President Nicolas Sarkozy was quoted as saying on Wednesday.
In his first detailed public comments on the West's nuclear standoff with the Islamic republic since taking office, Sarkozy said the concept of a nuclear-armed Iran was "unacceptable".
"I for my part think one should not hesitate to toughen the sanctions," Sarkozy said in an interview published in the German monthly magazine Cicero.

The barometer heralding respect-of-France is rising.
Just wow.
I still keep doing double takes about this guy. I may have to enjoy some French fries on my lunch break today to show my solidarity. And for the record, the President of France is now to the right of Bush on immigration.
It’s about time there is some sanity in the world again.
Simply amazing.
This truly is the bizarro world. France is showing some balls and signs of conservatism, while the US is showing serious signs of sliding into unrestrained leftism. WTF
Come on Sarko, what do you mean sanctions.
They either toe the line or face pyrotechnics.
Whatever the French equivalent of the Secret Service is had better keep on their toes, the ROP and the left seem to have lost their best friend in Europe and might try to bring back the status quo the old fashion way.

^^^^What he said.
It’s obvious that the election in France was flawed and it will certainly not be upheld after all of the litigation - a conservative could only win if he rigged the vote — oh wait, wrong country - nevermind.
I’d like to order a Dutch version of Sarkozy, we could really use a politician with both brains and balls.
Flavo,
Thanks for posting this.
It occurred to me yesterday that there’s a new wind blowing in Europe, one that might sweep away the terrorists of the Middle East.
With Merkel in Germany, and whoever in Britain, Europe now has the political power to confront terror.
But, rather than Iran, let’s get after Syria first.
Hey - I thought Europe was drowning in socialism ?
Yeah, more sanctions . . . . that's what we need!!
That'll work!! I'll bet Ahmanutjob is already shaking in his sandals!!

Amazing how one leader can turn around France - first he comes out and says they need to deport illegal immigrants (unlike our glorious el Presidente) and now this.
Damn, I’m really starting to like this guy.
Okay, Germany and France have been ‘turned’ to our side.
Now its al Qaeda and the Democrats....much better odds.
Hopefully, once the left in this country sees France taking these steps it will then be “OK”. After all, to them, American conservatives are neanderthals whereas the French are enlightened.
