Sen. Eugene McCarthy, in explaining why, as a Democrat, he voted for Reagan: "Mr. Carter quite simply abdicated the whole responsibility of the presidency while in office. He left the nation at the mercy of its enemies at home and abroad. He was the worst president we ever had." I might have to put Eugene McCarthy on my list of leftists who have honor. That would double the list (Patrick Moynahan being the other).

As great as Reagan's presidency was and as many major goals he reached in office, perhaps his greatest and most important contribution was getting Jimmy Carter out of the White House.
God bless the memory of Eugene McCarty for a spot-on critique of Carter's presidency.
