House approves Iraq war money with no withdrawal Thu May 24, 2007 6:52PM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives broke a four-month deadlock with President George W. Bush on Thursday and approved $100 billion in new funds for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without a timetable for withdrawing combat troops.

By a vote of 280-142, the House passed the emergency funding bill, sending it to the Senate for expected approval this week.

The war funds were coupled with new domestic money for child health care, more reconstruction after 2005 hurricanes, and other programs, pushing the overall price tag of the measure to $120 billion. The bill also raises the U.S. minimum wage for the first time in more than a decade.

So an outright $20 billion in bribes and whatever the minimum wage nonsense will cost. Does the President still have that veto pen?

“We picked up at least 60 dem votes...”

Actually we picked you about 170 Dem votes. A procedure invoked by the house allowed the anti-war activists to change their vote so it looks like a Republican bill.

Someone please correct me here. I only got bits of what happened.

Exactly, this was a horse trade, and the GOP got the nag.

Bush won the battle for fund, but the Dems won the bigger victory. The amnesty bill will destroy the GOP, and give the DNC an unbeatable influx of new members.

Don’t fret your choice Ron Paul, the cowardly, would veto this and end the war and bring the troops home. Thank goodness he has no such authority and never will. Rats, Ron Paul and the terrorists lose. GW and our troops win! Gee, nice company Ron Paul is in.

But from what I have been hearing about the bill it will destroy both the GOP and the DNC and change our country into a Italian type of multiple parties where nobody has a majority and so we could end up with some type of parlimentary system. At the worst we will not be able to afford the magnitudes of increments in social costs. Thank God I am old and will not have to pay for them.

So you are happy about $20 billion in unrelated spending plus the costs of a minimum wage hike?

No, but I am happy that we will continue to take the fight to the terrorists where they are versus fighting them here.

We could do that without $20 billion in bribes and a minimum wage hike also.

Yes we could but saving some dollars out of the largest one day tax revenue in history (thanks to GW lowering taxes) to fight Al Qaeda here on our soil, is not worth it.

20$ billion and the costs of a minimum wage hike kind of make that a non-issue. They can come up with a new bill while the rest of us are on holiday.

Those leftist dingbats that voted for the bill should have their names published in every possible way. They are traitors and deserved to leave the House permanently.

You might be on holiday but our troop are not.

I know funding the war is not important to Ron Paul or his supporters but it is to me and many more conservatives.

Our Congress does not have to be on holiday and they can certainly stay and pass a new bill. They can do that without putting the troops in any sort of danger from Congress.

There is zero proof which you can present that can prove that the President won the war funding bill in return to the illegal immigration bill, only conspiracy theorists on our side are coming up with this stuff. Second the illegal immigration bill despite all its problems will not destroy the GOP, it will have very little effect on the political landscape, and who ever says otherwise is very wrong, including Rush Limbaugh. Less than 10% of the illegal immigrants will become US citizens, and they will not become US citizens for at least 10 years from now. The vast majority of those illegal immigrants who become citizens are not going to vote as the Hispanics in the US have lower rate of participation in the elections.

You are right, I don’t have any proof. Nor did I ever state that I did. It is only speculation. But there was some behind the scenes deals that were cut. That is the nature of the business.

The moonbats are enraged Bush was not defeated. The Democrats surrendered faster than Pelosi and Reid could shout, NO BLANK CHECK! Well, they gave Bush a blank check for conducting the War.
