Thompson headlines Prescott Bush Awards

By Brian Lockhart Staff Writer

Published May 25 2007

STAMFORD -- Character actor and former Sen. Fred Dalton Thompson's next role is as president -- he's playing Ulysses S. Grant in the HBO film "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee."

But Thompson last night did not end speculation about his possible run for the White House...

"We're living in a nation beset by suicidal maniacs," Thompson said, launching into criticism of the immigration bill.

A strong supporter of the Iraq war, Thompson criticized Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for publicly stating the war has been lost -- "fine, fine message to those people giving their lives for us" -- and the Democrats for debating a timetable for "surrender.

"Al-Qaida have a 100-year plan," Thompson said. "We have a plan until the next election."

You don’t give “straight talk” at a forum honoring Prescott Bush.

Hunter is my first choice, Tancredo my second, Thompson my third.

If Hunter and Tancredo don’t get the nomination, Thompson will get my full support.

I love how the media always says “Actor AND Senator” instead of “Former Senator and actor”....typical!

Harsh words for Congress and the POTUS.

This man needs to run, I look forward to campaigning for him.

So far I like what I hear from Thompson. I’m leaning towards him if he announces. I do like Tancredo and Hunter but I really like Thompson’s straight talk and no nonsense approach.

"Hunter is my first choice, Tancredo my second, Thompson my third."

Isn't that kind of like saying, A Leprechaun is my first choice, a Unicorn is my second, and Thompson my third???? Only one of those three has a realistic chance of being elected. And it ain't the leprechaun or the unicorn.

Heavenly days, as Ma Perkins used to say. With FTD playing President Grant, the Fred heads are sure to fall in love all over again! His performance will no doubt cast even more stars into the eyes of the “must be entertained” crowd. Hollywood, television and the halls of education have done a fine job of brainwashing, and America now trembles at their mercy.

Fred hasn’t declared his candidacy yet. He’s not an official candidate yet, which means he doesn’t come first in my eyes. Hunter and Tancredo are official candidates, so they have my attention.

As I said earlier, if Fred gets the nomination on the Republican side, he will have my full support.

Except his speech writers say he does most of his own stuff, and they polish.

But I guess you know more than them, right?

yeah, I do.

I read your tagline...Ron Paul2008??

My grandmother was a ‘Taftie’, too. She was convinced that Pearl Harbor was our fault because we cut off their fuel oil supply and we had no business in the European War. (somethings never change)

(I do support the FairTax, though.)

Well, whatcha gonna do? I think you know that I support Hunter; but a broadside like the one Fred just put into my sworn enemies really warms the cockles of my heart. If Fred ends up with the nomination, I'll gladly vote for him.

"Al-Qaida have a 100-year plan," Thompson said. "We have a plan until the next election."

Unfortunately, that's so true.
