Chertoff: Mexico not encouraging illegal "migration"; Senate bill is "straight w/ American public"
CSPAN video ^ | 5/25/07 | LonewackoDotCom

Posted on 05/25/2007 12:32:26 PM PDT by lonewacko_dot_com

This CSPAN WMV file has DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff saying the following:

"If we're going to change the dynamic here we've gotta be completely honest with the American people about what's practical and what's impractical, about how long it's going to take, about how much it's going to cost and about what the collateral consequences are going to be and this bill was an effort to really be straight with the American public...

...After promoting a "holistic" aka comprehensive approach, the host asks about the NYT Mexican consulates article. Chertoff replies:

"I don't think the Mexicans are encouraging illegal migration in this country, I don't think they're discouraging it... I think they're servicing their citizens in another country... as long as they comply with the law that's really their business.

...I think they realize that in the long run they're better off [with a "guest" worker program with circular movement]"

It seems clear that the Mexican government HAS been aiding and encouraging illegal immigration. In addition, they seem to encourage a notion of “dual citizenship” and voting in both countries’ elections.

Hey Chertoff, can we just adopt Mexico’s comprehensive immigration policies? They seem to make things clear in a lot less than 800 pages.

“I don’t think the Mexicans are encouraging illegal migration in this country”

That’s an obvious lie.

The Mexican Government proudly and openly does so.

Where does Chertoff get for saying such a bald-faced lie?

What does he call that comic book they published on how to illegally cross the US border, find work, evade immigration, etc.?

I saw a CNN clip of Chertoff stating that Americans didn't want to pay $50 for a head of lettuce, stupid, but mostly harmless hyperbole.

Today on Michelle Malkin's HotAir.com Chertoff is quoted:

"I understand that some people think it's not enough. Maybe they want people thrown in jail for ten years or they want people executed."

Claiming that Americans want to execute 20 million people is a step far too far, Chertoff should be fired!

Mexico has a single, streamlined law that ensures that foreign visitors and immigrants are:

- in the country legally
- have the means to sustain themselves economically
- not destined to be burdens on society
- of economic and social benefit to society
- of good character and have no criminal records
- contributors to the general well-being of the nation.

The law also ensures that:

- immigration authorities have a record of each foreign visitor
- foreign visitors do not violate their visa status
- foreign visitors are banned from interfering in the country’s internal politics
- foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported
- foreign visitors violating the terms of their entry are imprisoned or deported
- those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison

I think Chertoff should just go back to his former job - as an extra in Star Wars.

No, open debate leading up to this fiasco would have been..."an effort to really be straight with the American public" on such an important issue you elitist creep.
