What did you say in reply? When I talked to my parish priest about this issue, I stated that people are voting for abortion just as much as they’re “voting to help the poor” when they vote for pro-choice politicians. He said he had “never thought of that”.

Check this out. San Francisco priest reads the riot act.

“Rasmussen Reports conducted a telephone poll with 1,000 American adults on May 16 and 17.”

I suggest that as this is a religious matter, the decision is up to Catholics and the Catholic Church. As abortionists are responsible for the murders of millions of babies, the Church is entirely right for denying Communion to the abortionists.

who cares what the "majority" thinks? The Roman Catholic church isn't a democracy, corporate board or even considers what the people think.

The pope decides and that's the way it is. If you don't like it.....tough sh#t. Become a Episcopalian or Presbyterian...or whatever.

The reason the “church” has become liberal is that the seminaries and convents have been infiltrated by left leaning homosexuals that propagate “social” issues rather that religious issues.

A “poll” does NOT change what “morality” and what the Church’s position should be on matters of faith and morals.

The bishops however, are more likely to cave to political pressure (from the gay priest agenda, their democrat parishioners, their unions, and their friends in the liberal press. The bishops already, for example, have IGNORED their responsibility to have already done this excommunication and PUBLICIZED the excommunication for the democrats.

Having said that, the Catholic bishops are pushing/promoting/publishing/publicizing immigration “reform” to promote THEIR interests in the Spanish church (collection plate) over the real world interests of the United States as a democracy, a free nation, and its long-term public debt (schools, medicare, social security, welfare, hospitals, wages, jobs, etc.)

Unbelieveable - The priest never “thought” of 43 million aborted American taxpayers when he said to we should vote for democrats?

Being a politician is a free choice. No one is forcing anyone to run for public office. Being a Catholic is a free choice. No one is being forced to join the Catholic Church.

Catholic politicians who can't reconcile their political positions with the teachings of the Catholic Church need to either leave politics or leave the Church.

Further more, it should be obvious to rational voters that Catholic politicians who vote "pro-choice" are either stupid or dishonest.

“Catholics for the most part vote democrat. For some reason, many nuns and priests support dems who are everything opposite what the church teaches. I don’t understand it and the only reason I can come up with is ethnic.”

Maybe it has something to do with the huge effort the Soviets made to infiltrate seminaries. And with the takeover of seminaries by the lavendar mafia.

Who said it is Catholic?

The picture shows some religious and one looks as if a woman were involved. She certainly is not an Extra Eucharistic Minister or she would be looking the other way and giving out Communion. She also would not be wearing green as the “priest” is.

Besides, Some parts of the Episcopal and Lutheran Religions have clergy who wear priests vestments. My be is one of those religions as they do not deny communion to anyone.

What an absolutely absurd poll question!

Absurd in terms of how the church deals with its members, yes. But there are implications here that people may be missing. JFK made a big deal that he was not "ruled from Rome," which was a concern at the time. For many years after, it was not a big issue with voters; recall that George Romney's Mormonism was not an issue in his campaign.

However, if the argument is that the Catholic Church will deny communion to any politician that does not legislate or execute laws according to Catholic doctrine, many voters will be concerned about voting for Catholics. Much of the non-Catholic public won't understand or believe that it will only apply to a few key issues, they'll see it as the Pope dictating American political postions. They could be influenced to believe that a Catholic politican will support the "Catholic position" on everything. At one time this was what many believed in the US, and it might not take much to return to those days.

Short term, this may affect issues that you care about. Long term, it may mean Catholics will have more difficulty getting elected. And what happens when a different Pope emphasizes a different part of Catholic theology - how to deal with immigrants or the poor, for instance?

Ok, flame away, but I think people haven't really looked ahead to the potential political issues.

What a ridiculously stupid poll. The least they could do is poll CATHOLICS!

18 Democrats need to repent, or ex-communicate themselves, otherwise they are hypocrits.

The Catholic politicians are Catholic by their own choice. The Pope did not force them to become Catholic. They are free to leave the church — that is, ex-communicate themselves — and find some other religion or system of beliefs that can rationalize the murder of the unborn.

The backlash against JFK had more to do with anti-Catholicism among Protestants than a concern for religion dictating politics. GW has gotten the same criticism for being a Christian by non-Christians. It’s a ridiculous criticism for any religious politician.

I have lived through 75 years of “political issues” but nothing has changed except blatant amoral moral issues. I still face death and pay taxes.

What has happened is that the murder of innocents has been tucked into a neat corner that shows as a political issue. It is no where near a political issue. It is a moral issue.

Even non believers support anti abortion. It is a matter of conscience and a “good” developed conscience would be to support pro life. It is easy to see where the “Washington Conscience” is. It certainly is not “good”.

In my daily excursion into the Pro-Life movement most religious denominations have an anti abortion rule in their doctrines. The problem is, except for the Catholic Church, the other denomination’s clergy are lukewarm to cold on support of anti abortion.

Doesn’t St. Paul and the Apocalypse speak of “lukewarmness”?
Scripture tells it like it is.

As long as we have people who have sinful natures, we will have abortion as a moral issue that is put on the back burner of the political stove.

**A new national poll of adults shows that a majority of people disagree that Catholic politicians who support abortion should be denied communion at church. The poll comes after comments from Pope Benedict XVI saying they should and that pro-abortion politicians automatically excommunicated themselves.**

Doesn’t matter what the people think. It’s what God thinks. And that is reflected in what the Pope has decreed. We always have to ask ourselves does this opinion go “with the church” or “against the church”?

Whaht these people are saying is “against the church.”
