On the heels of deals on war funding and immigration, albeit a very fragile one, Congress gets top billing Sunday on the morning television talk shows.
CNNs Late Edition leads off with Democratic presidential contender Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware. In a break from the other Democratic presidential hopefuls in the Senate, he voted for the war supplemental Thursday, which did not include any timetable for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. With both the left and the right already hammering Democratic front-runners Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton over their no votes, look for Biden to try to capitalize.
Host Wolf Blitzer will also moderate a congressional face-off over war funding between Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee and a presidential contender.
And finally, Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz discusses the war on terror and the future of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
On NBC, presidential candidate Bill Richardson sits down with host Tim Russert on Meet the Press. Expect the governor of New Mexico, who just formally announced his bid this week in Los Angeles, to tout his Latino bona fides.
ABCs This Week leads with a face-off over immigration, between Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, one of President Bushs key negotiators on the issue and Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.).
But, proving that he cant stay away from the presidential race for long, host George Stephanopoulos welcomes former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore to discuss his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
Stephanopoulos also leads a political roundtable with columnist Ron Brownstein of The Los Angeles Times, Democratic consultant Donna Brazile, ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper, and columnist George Will.
Fox News Sunday also sticks to the presidential contender/congressional face-off blueprint, with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and the debate over immigration reform with Republican Sens. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas.
CBSs Face the Nation also focuses on Congress, hosting Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.). Expect Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sessions, a key figure in the immigration battle, to focus on war funding and the grand bargain, as senators have begun calling the immigration compromise that is facing tough sledding in the Senate.
C-SPANs Newsmakers rounds out the morning with an interview with FEMA Director David Paulison.
Will he get through the entire interview without hearing about the heck of a job that President Bush said his predecessor, Michael Brown, had done after Hurricane Katrina?
And in a Memorial Day tribute on This Week, parents Beth and Michael Belle discuss losing their soldier son in Afghanistan and remembering him at Arlington National Cemetery.
Tomorrow night, starting at 11 PM EST.
Hunter vs. Rangel!
Be there, or be square!
I can’t stand to listen to Rangel’s voice.
But I’ll suffer it tomorrow night!
Alas Babylon! prequel?
Bump!
In San Diego, Late Edition is on 8am PST
check your frmail for time
Sorry. I looked at the time wrong.
11 AM - 1 PM EST.
Sorry.
So...set your alarms!
“I will say this will be the first time I’ll be looking towards seeing Late Edition on CNN.”
It will be the first time I have Watched it!!
BTW, 5/31 is Congressman Duncan Hunters birthday.
Hunter vs. Rangel
I ought to give 100 - 1 odds that Hunter wins!
Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I can put up with watching Little Wolfie if it means I get to see Hunter demolish Rangel.
..I’ll be catching it tomorrow morning before my Bible study—I’ll try and capture it...
100-1 odds "Wrangel" the (Hamlet of Harlem)comes down with the flu or food poisoning and has to cancel at the last minute.
Only one person (Senator Sessions) possibly attacking the present immigration bill in the U.S. Senate on just one out of all of the television “talking heads” shows and while Duncan Hunter is too busy talking about war funding to get to immigration? This is ludicrous!
I’ve got to see this! He’s always great going against these liberals.
First off, Hunter is not a senator, but a representative.
Secondly, you haven't been paying attention have you?
And that's only one link.
..easy folks
RE DH--Brother Moore, NOBODY talks about immigration like Mr. Hunter. Check some of these out if you haven't:
Hunter on Wolf Blitzer now, lookin’ good!
Rangel is a moron. He’s asking why we aren’t having our allies and friends helping out, and why only Americans are dying.
First off, is Rangel aware of how many nations are in the Coalition?
Secondly, does Rangel even remember how hard the UN and several nations (France, Germany, Russia) fought to impede America in our venture in Iraq.
