Thanks redrock ~ here’s a Memorial Day quote from Jack Kinsella:

“This weekend is not just the beginning of summer. It is set aside to honor those who make the supreme sacrifice on your behalf. It is a time set aside to pray for those who protect us from harm. It is a time for us to love those who love us with a love beyond human comprehension.

It is a time when we Americans are to remember the words of Jesus Christ, the Founder of our nation and the Bestower of our prosperity:

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

God bless you, my brothers, comrades, the defenders of America! I honor you and offer you my most profound thanks, admiration and respect.

I beg your forgiveness for the actions of those like John Edwards and his ilk. They do not represent me. They do not represent America. They represent themselves. Pay no attention to them. They are without honor and undeserving of your notice.

Again, quoting our Lord: “Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)

Semper Fidelis. “Always faithful.” I pray America will see that, not as a slogan, but as a life principle. You certainly have.

Edwards and his ilk have no concept of what that means. But we, the people for whom for whom you’ve expressed your love, not with words, but with deeds and your own blood, salute you!

Thank you for doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. And may our God watch over you, protect you, and grant you victory. And may we never break faith with you, for we will then be richly deserving of our fate.

Semper Fi!”
~~ Jack Kinsella.

Wished I had seen this before I went to church tonite. I was sorely disappointed with the sermon this morning. Pastor danced all around the meaning of Memorial Day with out ever mentioning it’s TRUE meaning.

"My favorite cap says “The Price of Freedom is NOT Free”. In an instant I can determine someones education level as they read it by the look on their face."

I am in wonderment. What is my education level? Yup, you're correct, pretty low.

"He is still in hospice."

I've been out of touch. I thought Tonk passed on. Good to hear he is still fighting. He gave me an outlet for my sense of duty after 9/11 when I tried to re-enlist or just be a gopher for the local Recruiters.

Tonk posted that he applied to the Coast Guard Auxillary. I saw that as the last option and I also joined the CG Auxillary. My flotilla of (2) boats fell into dis-repair, so my CG Aux experience was short lived. Tonk continued his mission as a shore-based radioman for the Coast Guard. He is/was an influence on my life. Hope he is doing well.

And he continued on even further...the Coast Guard needed him in other areas.....he studied and studied, then passed the tests for Commercial Fishing Vessel Examiner, then helped train other auxiliary members. The Coast Guard was his life. He loved every minute of his time in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Tonk is a good soul and an honorable man. Others would do well to emulate his legacy.

Bump straight to the top.

Tonk is my hero. What a wonderful blessing to have gotten to know him. He is sorely missed around these parts.

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

We Were Soldiers~Mansions of the Lord

THE LAST POST

Come home! Come home! The last post is sounding
for you to hear. All good soldiers know very well there
is nothing to fear while they do what is right, and forget
all the worries they have met in their duties through the
year. A soldier cannot always be great, but he can be a
gentleman and he can be a right good pal to his comrades in
his squad. So all you soldiers listen to this - Deal fair by all
and you'll never be amiss.

Be Brave! Be Just! Be Honest and True Men!
