(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in the United States appear satisfied with their countrys pregnancy termination guidelines, according to a poll by the New York Times and CBS News. 41 per cent of respondents believe abortion should be generally available to those who want it, up five points since March.
Conversely, 37 per cent of respondents believe abortion should be available but under stricter limits than it is now, while 21 per cent think the procedure should not be permitted.
A Supreme Court ruling in 1973 gave American women the right to an abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy, and regulated the procedure during the second trimester "in ways that are reasonably related to maternal health." In the third trimester, a state can choose to proscribe abortion, except when necessary "for the preservation of the life or health of the mother."
Last month, a Supreme Court ruling effectively banned partial birth abortiona procedure performed in the late-term of pregnancy when the fetus can survive outside the wombwithout making an exception for the health of the mother.
On May 24, the Louisiana House of Representatives voted unanimously to outlaw partial birth abortion in the state. The legislation contemplates a $10,000 U.S. fine and/or a sentence of one year in prison for a person convicted of performing a partial birth abortion.

Which of these comes closest to your view? Abortion should be generally available to those who want it; Abortion should be available but under stricter limits than it is now; or Abortion should not be permitted?

Source: CBS News / New York Times Methodology: Telephone interviews with 1,125 American adults, conducted from May 18 to May 23, 2007. Margin of error is 3 per cent.
I think other possible captions might be: "3 in Five Americans favor greater restrictions on abortion", or "Americans favor greater restrictions on abortion by a margin of 48 to 41 percent". Once again the minority rules in the MSM.
“Three-in-Five Americans Back Limiting or Outlawing Abortion Altogether.”
There, I fixed it
The obvious solution to me is to overturn roe vs wade and let states decide what abortions are to be legal, if any.
that would be an austere beginning
Three-in-Five Don't
Many adults in the United States appear satisfied with their countrys pregnancy termination guidelines. . . .
Many adults in the United States appear dissatisfied with their country's baby-killing guidelines. . . .
How so?
I would estimate given the restrictions many are already enacting that the abolition of abortion if left to the states would map more or less like “shall issue” concealed carry permits do
then if one day, SCOTUS outlaws this abomination with rare exception the same as they legalized it then so much the better
maybe a Constitutional Amendment.....we are so civilized...we need to be forced by law to keep from killing our unborn young
no secret who walks the fruited plain unencumbered.
Doesn't matter - Murder is still wrong.
Four-in-Five Americans will Permit Abortion.
Depends how you look at it.
Actually the word “abortion” should be replaced with “murder” or at the minimum “infanticide”.
A Supreme Court ruling in 1973 gave American women the right to murder their unborn babies.
telephone interview + 3 percent margin of error + CBS = “up five points since March” and THE HEADLINE THEY WANT TO PRINT
The question is: How many Americans are in favor of using part of their own income to pay for everybody else’s abortion?
And for you to pay the hit man.
According to dems, two out of five is a mandate.
