A teenager was charged with felony hate crimes yesterday, a day after he forced a 15-year-old Sikh schoolmate into a boys’ bathroom in Queens, tore off his turban and sheared his hair, the authorities said.
According to the Queens district attorney, Richard A. Brown, the teenager, Umair Ahmed, 17, walked up to the Sikh, Vacher Harpal, in a hallway at Newtown High School in Elmhurst shortly after noon on Thursday and said, “I have to cut your hair.” Mr. Ahmed was holding a pair of scissors, Mr. Brown said.
Vacher replied: “For what? It is against my religion,” according to Mr. Brown. Mr. Ahmed, who is of Pakistani descent, then displayed a ring inscribed with Arabic words, and said: “This ring is Allah. If you don’t let me cut your hair, I will punch you with this ring,” Mr. Brown said.
Mr. Ahmed then forced Vacher into a boys’ bathroom, and Vacher began crying as he removed his turban, begging Mr. Ahmed not to cut his waist-length hair, which, in accordance with the Sikh religion, had never been cut, Mr. Brown said.
But Mr. Ahmed cut Vacher’s hair to the neckline, then threw the hair into a toilet and onto the floor, Mr. Brown said. One student, who was not charged, stood at the bathroom door and acted as a lookout, the police said. Another student, a friend of Vacher’s, saw the attack, they said. The police said a teacher’s aide notified a school safety officer after being alerted by a student.

Because the prosecution does not want a conviction
If the prosecution wanted a conviction, they would have charged the lookout as an accomplice, and offered him a plea bargain in exchange for testimony

If they are smart, they won’t piss off the Sikhs. They are good people, not looking for trouble, but collectively won’t stand for any crap.
He had scissors. How about Assault with a Deadly Weapon? He used the threat of force to escort someone somwhere they didn’t want to go. How about Kidnapping? Right there that’s about 40 years he’d be looking at. This Hate Crime nonsense is absurd.
My heart does go out to Sikhs though, who have basically been a peaceful people for quite a long time, but get wrapped up with these Islamic monsters. Speaking of which, I’d love to show this Mohammedist punk my St. John’s class ring. I have a feeling it would do considerably more damage.
The fact that it was a Muslim is important to the story.
I like Sikhs. They party hard, they have their own rules, they do not proselytize and have no problems with other religions for the most part. But as you said, collectively, they do not stand for any nonsense.
This is not going to stop here, by any means.

Extremely brave professional soldiers, well-decorated and thoroughly unfailingly loyal. Multiple VC recipients. And good friends to have: meddle with them at your abject peril.
And their food is good, and their hospitality is even better, if you are allowed the privilege of becoming their friends.

I do too, generally — and with all generalizations we must recognize that they do not hold universally true.

Please enlighten us mortals, how exactly is the idea stupid.
Those Muslim boys are lucky they are in police custody, because if the Sikhs around there are like some of the Sikhs I have known, it won’t be their hair that gets sheared back.
