Arrests at Russian gay protests
BBC ^ | 27 May 2007 | BBC

Two West European MPs and a Russian gay rights leader have been arrested in Moscow, as violence broke out at a banned protest by gay rights activists.

Anti-homosexual protesters threw kicks, punches and eggs at the gay rights group, chanting "Moscow is not Sodom".

The gay rights demonstrators were trying to deliver a petition to the mayor of Moscow, demanding the right to stage public marches.

MPs from Germany and Italy were reportedly among those arrested.

Veteran British gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell was arrested, along with the leader of GayRussia, Nikolai Alexeyev.

Mr Tatchell was punched in the face before being detained.

Italian MEP Marco Capatto was kicked by an anti-gay rights protester and then arrested when he demanded police protection.

Protesters warned

Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov has called homosexuality "satanic" and says he will never allow gay rights parades in Russia's capital.

Gay activists were also attacked by right-wing protesters and arrested during a march last year.

Sunday's protest was to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Russia.

Moscow city police spokesman Viktor Bryukov had warned the organisers not to go ahead.

"Moscow police don't have the right to encroach on the law to pander to a group of citizens who exploit the theme of human rights while distorting this notion," he said.

On Saturday, right-wingers and members of the Russian Orthodox Church held an anti-gay demonstration in Moscow.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Alexy II, supports the ban on gay parades.

Gay activists in Russia were divided over whether the protest should be held.

Some fear it could provoke a backlash.

There are somethings about Russia that are redeeming. We have let the filth into our schools and based on lies change our culture. Glad to see some people will fight back. Homosexuality is obscenity and should be banned from the streets and public venues. Tolerance should end when leaving the bedroom door. We need an international political and cultural united front to turn back the tide. Someday Sodom will fall again.

Russians do not like Homosexuals. They are where we were in the 1950s. And have no use for the “Special Rights” or Approved Victim Class folks who have been shoved on the sheep of the US Populace. Crime is crime. There is no such thing as a Love Crime. Criminal Intent is criminal intent. Prosecution for a persons thoughts as not being politically approved is an attempt to regulate the thoughts of everyone else. Nuts to that garbage.

What about the Knoxville couple, who were mutilated, tortured, abused, she was gang raped? The assholes in the media with the exception of Fox News have completely ignored this story. Michael Savage is correct to call the Empty Suits. I call them Morally Corrupt and Bankrupt. Our media is trying to foist the Gay Culture on the Rest of the World. Screw them.

Actually there are many things that are
“redeeming” about Russians: religion, literature; music; art, etc.

In fact, take away the enslavement and genocide of the Russian (and other) peoples by the Soviet Marxists during the 20th century, and you have a fabulous culture and civilization.

No doubt. It is a pity the Soviet era even occurred. Russian is a shadow of what it could’ve been had it progressed naturally from monarchy to a free democracy.

The trouble with "Gay Rights" is that it means extra privilege for homosexuals. One should be aware of the tactics in certain schools. This in the UK and USA. While the family consisting of one man, one woman, and one God, are decried, then in the next turn, the "normalcy" of homosexuality is taught. I have been keeping an eye on things Canadian in this regard. I have yet to see this, perhaps it is covered up by the MSM. I stand corrected, if this is not the case.

As for one Peter Tatchell, a British citizen, who was punched in the face, I got a wealth of information from Google. He was born in Australia. Again, he has found the secret, that so many "poor devils" of my era could only dream of. This in hard scrabble post WW2 England. No,not to be being safely homosexual, but avoiding demanding employment. Employment, when one has to account to others, 40 hours a week.

He has never worked for years. How nice. Flitting about, no doubt enjoying all the creature comforts, living off of other peoples labour, never having to do a damn thing, but yap.

“Good for the Russians.”

-yeah good for the Russians. Who need nasty old gays clogging the streets of Moscow preventing good law abiding citizens from getting to the liquor stores and abortion clinics. Those pesky gays are destroying our moral fiber.

Would you like to be added to the Homosexual Agenda Ping list? Get alerted to various news and background about the evil of the homosexual “gay rights” movement?

Just freepmail me or wagglebee!

Yes indeed, so-called “gay rights” is depravity and leads to extreme domination by government in order to force it down peoples’ throats.

Like what? You think it is OK to oppress citizens who are marching just because it is a cause you don't like?

“from monarchy to a free democracy.”

With whole respect to Russians, I just can’t imagine a free democracy in Russia, they couldn’t freely purchase a land until 1993 (I don’t know who could afford to buy it after), that’s like they are 200 years after the rest of the Europe. This has got it’s good sides and bad sides, but lack of free market, unemployment rate (real unemployment, in many places they are still using “full employment” policy, that’s so soviet-like,) infant death rate, life lenght expectancy, alcoholism and number of smokers (biggest in the world, largest number of juvenile smokers and alco addicts), AIDS, HDI are bad sides.

anyway... few days ago RusIvan was laughing at Poles and gay -shame pride in Warsaw, saying that it’s impossible to demonstrate perversity in Russia... well

Times are a-changing...

Bad behavior doesn’t justify more bad behavior. Thats like tolerating pedophiles because smoking is prevelant.

I saw this on television a couple of hours ago, and no matter what you think of homosexuality, seeing young, shaven-headed men viciously assault the people in that parade was sickening.

Exactly but that is the approach of the left and all who seek justification by proxy. They are idiots and we in this country need to quit validating the opinions of idiots. There are right and wrong views. The left only wins when we accept their twisted fog inducing idea that every view is legitimate no matter how bereft of reason. We need to stop arguing on their ground and just start knocking them down.

Well, well, well. So "gay pride" parades don't go over big in Russia. I like what the police spokesman said, and it certainly is refreshing to hear what the mayor said as well. No kowtowing to the homosexual agenda there! Like a breath of fresh air. Note that I am not condoning beating anyone up. But the cops said they couldn't protect them, and thus it was.
