McClatchy Washington Bureau ^ | May. 27, 2007 | Steven Thomma

Posted on 05/27/2007 10:30:29 AM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Just a few weeks ago, advisers to Mitt Romney spoke about a steady, gradual climb from obscurity to the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

Now, Romney has rocketed from behind and is leading the race or is neck and neck for the lead in the pivotal states of Iowa and New Hampshire.

Here’s another excerpt from the article:

Also, his rapid rise may say as much about the fickleness of Republicans this early in the campaign as it does about the former Massachusetts governor.

But for now at least, Romney enters the summer astride the top tier and within reach of being able to claim that he’s the front-runner for the nomination.

“He clearly has the three M’s: media, money and momentum,” independent pollster John Zogby said.

More good news for Romney supporters.

That momentum will come to a screeching halt once Fred declares.

Good News. I spent the weekend trying to sell Romney to ome very skeptical and angry GOP’ers in Maryland. I hope they at least listen to him when he speaks on TV..

I still like his business ethics. His religion is not what I believe , but if it comes down to him and Hill. Hill goes down in flames as far as I am concerned.

Romney Supports Tolerance for Gays, But Not Public Servants Who Speak Against Homosexuality

Rudy McRomney. Good one.

Why vote for “Liberal lite”? Or “cross dressing faux-conservative”? Republicans who espouse liberal social values are in a sense worse than regular Democrats. You keep hoping they’re actually conservative somewhere in there. But they aren’t. Usually the only conservative stuff they come out with is fake anyway, just to get the votes.

What don’t you believe about Romney’s religion?

He doesn’t drink, smoke, or swear. He’s been married to the same woman for 37 years, has raised 5 exemplary kids, and served on a mission across the ocean on behalf of his religion (and nearly died while doing it—even persisting on after that).

It seems to me that he’s lived as clean a life.

I can see you being leary of his more recent changes in public policy on social issues, but I think his devotion to God is pretty unquestionable.

What does that mean? Trying too hard to look presidential? It sounds like a bunch of gabbly gook. But if we're discussing looks, Fred Thompson is just 4-years older than Romney, but he looks not a day under 20 years older. Is that the face that screams vitality and strong leadership to the American people? Of course not.

But I would hope that the American people could look beyond what both Thompson and Romney look like and get beyond what they said years ago and look at their recent records and what they're saying, what they've been doing, what ideas they have for the country, and what skills they bring to the table.

So many of you are short sighted!

Yes there are those with agenda like in California.

California State Senate Passes Transsexual-Bisexual-Homosexual Indoctrination Bill

All through the 80's we had NEA agenda in the schools who was seducing for the last 20 years many of young boys & girls today many are bi sexual or confused.

Remember what Clinton did for oral sex and our young people also the condoning of masturbation etc.

We have inherited this break down and indifference! Many parents failed to guard their children so many today are crippled spiritually.

Which should not be lump in with the hard core abomination? Many commit suicide because they feel there is no hope!

To condemn a people in one swoop as a public official is irresponsible.

We should all be thankful that SSA is not our refiner’s fire in life, and have mercy on those who have the trial and trying to over come it!

IMHO

Two things about Romney: He's trimmed way too much to become Governor of Massachusetts, and its a lot of ground to recover from, believability-wise. Second, the religion thing adds to that; if he's a Mormon who isnt a full bore believer, then what is he genuinely? What is he other than a typical politician?

He only looks viable against McCain and Guliani, but hopefully it will end up elsewhere..Huckabee, Brownback, Thompson?

Appearance counts; primarily to people who are shallow in their thinking and not particularly informed. What is in the brain and gut that truly counts.

I’m sure Romney is a fine man with good qualities and much preferable to McCain or Rudy, but Thompson is a genuine conservative with a strong inner core.

Fred Thompson is just 4-years older than Romney...

Fred Dalton Thompson (born August 19, 1942)

Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947)

I thought there was more difference than four, so I did a date calculation. It is closer to 5 years than 4.

From and including: Wednesday, August 19, 1942
To, but not including : Wednesday, March 12, 1947

It is 1666 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date

Or 4 years, 6 months, 21 days excluding the end date

Alternative time units

1666 days can be converted to one of these units:

Uh, I think that these people are called swing voters. It would be pretty useful to have the shallow frothy feelings working in the GOP favor for once.
