What’s more, the Germans, Swedes, the Irish, Italians, Poles, and Jews all demanded that we provide government services in their languages and let them bring in their extended families on the taxpayer’s dime! So there’s no difference at all!

How many of those groups refused to assimilate? How many of them do not know English? How many of them chose to remain hyphenated Americans?

Sorry....but 'Latinos' who have assimilated into the American melting pot are just as accepted as any other group.

Immigrants used to have a sponsor..either a relative or friend... to see to it that they found a job and housing, etc.

I don't think there was any welfare of any kind.

The sponsor took responsibility for them, I think.

Which is a BIG difference. A hundred years there was no welfare state. The Democrats were able to buy votes just for the price of a Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas goose. Now we provide the welfare that Mexico cannot or will not.

My grandfather (Ma’s Pa)came to the US from County Cork, Ireland in 1905. He had to (1) have a sponsor, (2) have a job lined-up, and (3) give up his Irish-Gaelic language!

My Norwegian ancestors came here LEGALLY. They never took a dime of welfare or any program. My Grandfather became a well-respected banker who put his 3 kids thru all 4 years of the Univ of Wisconsin during the 20’s- 2 females and one male. Unheard of during that time. Women didn’t get that kind of education!

Linda Chavez needs to shove this “Opinion” where the sun never shines, IMO.
