I like Linda, in spite of her illegally employing her household help, but think her conflating xenophobes with folks against illegal immigration is bait and switch.

That said, comments on FR attacking illegals as being on a level with urban gangsters and/or terrorists are based either on xenophobia or bigotry. I can’t tell which. I only know there is an awful lot of it.

If you have to ask, you probably aren’t a xenophonbe.

Do you realize if this AMNESTY happens we are in effect creating the equivilent of adding over 17 more states to this country? And that’s not even considering the chain migration that is in the Senate bill.

Please look at what giving amnesty to as many as 20,000,000 illegal alien foreign nationals actually represents. More than the population of 16 states and DC!

According to the 2000 census, 18,785,867 is the total populations combined of
Wyoming,
Dist. of Columbia,
Vermont,
Alaska,
North Dakota,
South Dakota,
Delaware,
Montana,
Rhode Island,
Hawaii,
New Hampshire,
Maine,
Idaho,
Nebraska,
West Virginia,
New Mexico
and Nevada.

THINK about that.

“That said, comments on FR attacking illegals as being on a level with urban gangsters and/or terrorists are based either on xenophobia or bigotry.”

Then you probably haven’t worked around many illegals.

You can't possibly be unaware of some of the less attractive aspects of Mexican culture, such as the ingrained corruption, both at the local level and the political level. Corruption exists in the US, but the big difference is that we don't accept it, culturally. We are offended by it, and want to see it stamped out and punished whenever it is found, whereas Mexicans simply sigh and say that's the way it is. In addition, Mexico is currently on the verge of falling under the complete control of drug gangs. Their own military is routinely caught working for drug cartels.

Now we have a situation in which Mexicans, primarily, are coming into the US virtually unchecked. In addition to the organized criminals, we have many who simply are looking to improve their lives, but end up contributing to the creation of entire communities within the US that are indistinguishable from Mexico, complete with the level of corruption that Mexico is famous for. Unfortunately, these insular communities also leave these illegals vulnerable to the gangs for a couple of reasons: 1) illegals know next to nothing about American society and the resources that are available to them to combat crime. Instead, they operate as they would in Mexico, paying off who they must, stashing large amounts of cash in jars they bury out back, and generally failing to do what would be considered a civic duty to help fight crime and corruption. 2) For those who are familiar with the US criminal justice system, they may still be afraid to call them in for fear of deportation.

The very accusation of bigotry when it comes to this illegal immigration question is a bait and switch. Bigotry against the Mexican culture, because of its tolerance toward corruption, is completely justifiable. Americans should be making an effort not to import third world problems. However, those that accuse Americans of bigotry because of their resistance to the Mexicanization of the US do so by coloring the cultural conflict as a racial one. So, those of us who would resist the overwhelming cultural influence of a backward country like Mexico are accused of actually hating the racial component of the illegals, rather than the true thing we despise, which is the cultural element that the illegals are bringing with them. That is either through a lack of reasoning ability, or it is an outright lie in order to shut down the resistance to the wholesale transformation of the US into a third world country.

So you’ve never been to Chicago.

We've had three murders in this neighborhood over the last 15 years. Two were done by illegal aliens wielding aluminum baseball bats. The third was an old fashioned beating.

I know this colors my thinking about these people, but this area has people from all over the world and it's only the illegal aliens doing the murders!
