"When a soldier was injured and could not get back to safety, his buddy went out to get him, against his officer's orders. He returned mortally wounded, and his friend, whom he had carried back, was dead.
The officer was angry. 'I told you not to go,' he said. 'Now I've lost both of you. It was not worth it.'
The dying man repied, But it was, sir, because when I got to him, he said, 'Jim, I knew you'd come.'"

“Hard pressed on my right. My center is yielding. Impossible to maneuver. Situation excellent. I am attacking.”
Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne
Some things cannot be properly expressed in mere words. This is one of them... but I will try.
Nothing is more important to a combat soldier than the man next to him. And the USA has had the great fortune to have a surfeit of men and some very special women who have the ability and honor to give the very last measure in order to see their comrades survive to fight another day.
I have lost a few longtime friends in this fight against the Islamist factions. They make me small, for I am here, and they have joined the masses of Americans who populate Valhalla.
In their memory I dedicate myself to the concept that they fought and died to uphold. True freedom for all, and woe to those who would hold their countrymen in chains for their own power and satisfaction.
“I consider it no sacrifice to die for my country. In my mind, we came here to thank God that men like these have lived rather than to regret that they have died.”

Gen. Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson was once asked about his incredible courage going into battle. He replied:
“Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to always be ready, no matter when it may overtake me. Captain, that is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.”
President Abraham Lincoln
“They make me small ...”
And me as well.
My entire family served — parents, brother. My Dad lost his brother, a B-17 pilot. But not me.
I never had the honor to serve, which pains me — makes me feel small as well. I was “NPQ” because I had broken my back in high school. I do what I can to support and serve those who truly have. Certainly not enough (in my heart).
Greatest thanks to those to served and serve. May God have mercy on their souls and lighten the hearts of their loved ones.
I believe in that situation my pucker factor would prevent flatulence, until they made us, at which time I would pass lumpy wind and require resupply of Class II, if I lived.
“Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy.”
