Thanks for the great pictures snugs. One of my friends, Mike Allard, a fraternity brother from college days is buried there. Here is part of a tribute to Mike published online at http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/mjallard.htm

“Michael John Allard was born on September 12, 1940 and joined the Armed Forces while in Schofield, Wisconsin.

He served as a 1315 in the Navy. In 4 years of service, he attained the rank of Lieutenant/O3. He began a tour of duty on August 30, 1967.

For 34 years, all that Mark, Paul and Bart Allard knew about their father came from mementos, pictures and family stories. That changed March 19, when Mike Allard’s remains were laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia (March 21, 2001).

Allard, a Navy pilot, was killed in a 1967 airplane crash in Vietnam. The Wausau, Wisconsin, native was listed as missing in action, because the body was not recovered.

MUST READ . . .

QUOTE OF THE DAY: PRESIDENT BUSH
By Princella Smith at 07:11 PM

And the quote of the day belongs to President George W. Bush:

“THOSE WHO SERVE ARE NOT FATALISTS OR CYNICS,” BUSH SAID. “THEY KNOW THAT ONE DAY THIS WAR WILL END AS ALL WARS DO. OUR DUTY IS TO ENSURE THAT ITS OUTCOME JUSTIFIES THE SACRIFICES MADE BY THOSE WHO FOUGHT AND DIED IN IT.”

AP (USA Today) - Story Excerpts

The president’s motorcade was greeted at Arlington by scores of tourists who waved at Bush.

Bush spoke under overcast skies at a marble amphitheater after he laid a wreath of red, white and blue flowers at the Tomb of the Unknowns and stood, his hand over his heart, during a drum roll and the playing of Taps. First lady Laura Bush watched the ceremony with relatives of fallen troops.

Those who have died in the Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts fought for freedoms, which come at great cost and will survive only as long as there are Americans willing to defend the nation against determined enemies, he said.

Just in case you missed the following classic from THE ANCHORESS:

LET’S DO IT; LET’S IMPEACH BUSH

Oh, I think it’s definitely time. Let’s do it - let’s impeach President Bush, let’s have all of this brought forward and get it all investigated and put on the real, actual record, instead of in someone’s book of dreams and opinions or in a convenient, “bumperstickeresqe” meme. Let’s get all the tawdry lists and narratives together and finally get them “on the record and testified to.” We can start with the Gore/Behar list:
