> She feels no more pain than the hundreds of other mothers who have lost sons in war and chose not to trash their country and its president with leftist drivel.

I agree. That said, I believe hers is not a rational choice: there is clearly something wrong upstairs with her. IMO that much becomes really evident each time she talks or presents on camera: just look at her and it is difficult not to conclude she’s a couple bottles short a dozen. In my books, that equates to diminished responsibility.

Maybe that *does* make me a softie. Like I said, I see no value in nor get any pleasure from kicking someone when they are down.

I do believe she has become unglued by it all, and manipulated by the media and the left for their own cynical purposes. No rational being would do as Cindy has done.

> Lenin called them useful idiots when he talked of the capitalist that supported his lunatic cause. I’m sure that is exactly what the democrats think of this sad woman.

I’m convinced that you are right.

I too feel sorry for this pathetic soul. I don’t however think she is as nuts as you seem to believe, judging by this article she seems to make comprehensive statements about her reasons for leaving the scene. I think she took advantage of her sons death to advance the lefts’ cause. I also believe she advanced accusations she knew not to be true to gain the admiration of of those same people. I know when the 2006 elections were over she disappeared fast.

> Her whole cause was based upon a single lie, that lie was her son died for NOTHING.

You and I would agree that her son died for something much more precious than *nothing*. And we would struggle to see her rationale: because we are “normal”, well-adjusted folk with a sense of values.

There is nothing “normal” about Cindy Sheehan. That she sees “nothing” in his sacrifice indicates to me that she is far from well.

> That is why she is beneath contempt and will always be.

Might as well hold in contempt somebody with brain damage. I’m not defending her actions — they were reprehensible — but I really struggle to see the value that can be obtained from holding in contempt somebody whose grief has made her lose all sense of proportion and made her go unglued. I say again, I think she is in need of professional help: lots of it.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is now well-recognized as being something soldiers get when under fire. It used to be in WW-I they’d shoot soldiers with what would now be diagnosed as PTSD.

Who’s to say Cindy Sheehan isn’t suffering something similar? I’d say she probably is: one look at her tells me she is probably as mad as a meat-ax. She needs prayers and help and sympathy: you know, the finer sentiments that make our Civilization just a bit more liveable than the Taliban’s.

I cannot but feel profoundly sad for Cindy Sheehan. I do not dislike her (tho’ I dislike her message). There is clearly something wrong with her: grief at her terrible loss has made her unhinged. Her upstairs has done the bolt and she has garnered the sort of attention that most mentally balanced folks should run away from, screaming. The Media played her for a fool (for shame) because they could get a story out of her easily.

That's the thing. I too feel for her loss, as anyone who has lost a child would. But instead of dealing with her grief, she allowed it to turn to hatred of George Bush, and this allowed her to be used as a tool of the forces that oppose Bush and this country and freedom in the world as a whole. Just like the widows of those lost in the 9/11 attacks, if she chooses to enter the political arena and use her grief to damage the party in power, she is then subject to political criticism. At that point, one's loss does not automatically confer immunity from counter-arguments. Of the many thousands of families who have lost loved ones in armed conflicts, the vast majority have found non-political ways to deal with and express their grief. Cindy Sheehan would have been better served herself, as well as honoring the memory of her son, if she had chosen a more constructive and healthy outlet for her grief.

I agree with you. She has sown to the wind and is reaping the whirlwind as a result of her choices. And there is perhaps some justice to that.

I find more reprehensible the cynical manipulation of Cindy Sheehan by the media and by the left: they, at least, were in full command of their faculties, they knew what they were doing, and they rode the Cindy bandwagon for their own cynical ends for as long as it suited them to do so.

Cindy Sheehan at least has some modicum of excuse: grief has made her upstairs do the bolt. The media and the left have no such excuse. Theirs was a cold-blooded deliberate act, whereas I believe her motivations are fair game for debate.

Grieving Mums should sometimes be cut some slack. Media and Politicians should never.

She came to realize the Democrats were only her friends as long as she attacked Republicans, and cared no more about ending the war than anyone else.... Good for her, sad that it took her 2 years to figure out the obvious... that she was useful idiot for the left... but she did figure it out, better late than never I suppose.

Drudge linked to the DailyKos where, as you might imagine, there were over 800 messages lauding Sheehan for courage, etc.

I think that is precisely what will happen when she gets “home”. She has alienated her entire family, from what I am able to find out. I hope she doesn’t wind up making a display of herself in that pathetic mess she is responsible for down in front of the Bush ranch in Crawford. I expect that even she would not want to live there all alone, given the general feeling about her in and around Crawford.

The Left was done with her. She served her purpose. The Left controls congress. If she had a brain, she would realize that the Left has no more use for her.

Serious doubt has, I believe, been cast upon her claim of any decent relationship with her son Casey. You could look it up. I don’t think grief has much to do with her behavior, even though that is how she flogs it.

Unfortunately, in this country, the media and the radical left have never been reticent about using (abusing) anyone as long as it advances their agenda. They are about political power and do not let personal issues and human emotions interfere with their drive to capture and hold power. Very much Marxist-Stalinist in that sense.

She held the same views she has today before her son enlisted in the Army, she has said so.

So I don’t buy the wounded mother routine, but you go right ahead.
