Only 97.29%? Feh! Saddam had 101% support every election!

Big Deal! Saddam Hussein was able to get 99% of the vote last time he ran in Iraq.

Exactly! I think Assad needs to hire new vote counters. It is obvious there was fraud in this election because he won by such a small margin.

101% backed saddam. I thought that was odd until the dimocritters have spoken up. Do you think they voted absentee?

That means they have to stone and behead 19,653 people. It will take a pretty big pit to bury them in.

Only 97.29%? Feh! Saddam had 101% support every election! Last Semester I had a class with a guy who was in the US as a Political refugee for Viet Nam (came here in 2000). He told us that during the "elections" someone came to his house and told him who he was voting for. He said he never voted, but after each election the party officials would run ads in the news papers thanking those who voted for them and then list all their names, his name was on the list every time.

Like they have a choice. Vote for Bashar or die with all the rest of your family.
I love the middle East and all those wacky muslims.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev has won a new seven-year mandate after winning more than 97 percent of the vote in a referendum
A minor change, and this could have been a headline from Pravda 35 years ago. Not much difference, is there?

I bet the ballot looked like this one

Tsk, Assad Jr. is a punter: Saddam Hussein last got 100%!
In all seriousness, when will these dictators learn? For a fake election to SEEM credible to persons in countries that ACTUALLY HAVE REAL ELECTIONS, the faked winning result must be something more like 59%, maybe 60%.

A ratification ballot for the Reich’s annexation (Anschluss) of Austria. Eerie. But actually ... a lot more than 2.something percent of Austrians DID vote “Nein.” By that measure, the Reich wasn’t as un-free as Syria.

Speaking of Brezhneve and Pravda, how is the old guy? Last I heard in Pravda, he still had a cold.
