Oh, a Meercat! They are such interesting little animals - will never forget a documentary about them on PBS a few years ago. It's one of those kinds of animal stories with a female narrator, and about a family of meercats - of course we got to know each one in the family on a personal basis because they were given names like Debbie or something, and the story followed them as they struggled to survive among their predators. Cried a lot during that show - it was so sad to see them mourn one of their own as he or she was caught and killed by a hungry lion or tiger. :(
But your graphic is a cutie!
Hi Billie. Meerkats are just the cutest things, aren't they? I didn't see the PBS Meerkat shows, but I have become very involved in
"Meerkat Manor" on Animal Planet. I think I have watched all of the past two seasons which chronicle the adventures of the Whisker family. Have you seen any of them? Flower is the matriarch, Zaphod is her mate. Yossarian is his brother who has "social problems" and, when left to "babysit", has a habit of relocating the pups to a new burrow. He is such a misfit. One of Flowers pups died in one of Yossarians harebrained burrow move attempts. It was so sad. Then, one of Flower's daughters was seduced by "Carlos", a roving male from another family, and came home pregnant. Flower ostracized her, forcing her out of the family (Flower is the only female in the family allowed to mate). Another really sad turn of events for poor little Mozart. Shakespeare, Mozart's brother, was bitten by a poisionous snake. He survived, but it was touch and go for awhile. His sister Daisy would fore-go foraging trips to sit with her sick brother, keeping him company for days while he recovered.
The series is available on DVD now, I think. I highly recommend it. The social structure of these little animals is so interesting to watch. I sure hope that there is a new season of Meerkat Manor coming. I have to find out what happens to Flower's little family.
