Some news photos are so rich in symbolism they're almost like Renaissance paintings in how much they communicate.
Such an Associated Press photo appeared on the front page of the New York Times's national edition.
Itâs a picture of the scene after a bombing in Baghdad yesterday. Adding to the chaos of the bombing which killed at least 21 people and injured at least 66 was a shooter, maybe targeting people in the crowd.
Amid all the Iraqis who are running from the gunfire was a U.S. soldier, standing tall, perhaps looking in the direction of the gunshots, not apparently looking for cover.
An Iraqi boy seeks shelter behind the soldier, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division.

MAKES MY HEART SING WITH PRIDE..GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!
God Bless this man and all of the troops. I have the highest admiration for all of them.
I agree! Excellent idea!
Terrorist use little boys like this as human shields.
The soldier stands tall as a shield & beacon to freedom.
The juxtaposition is truly astounding.
God Bless Our Troops....
It doesn’t have influence. They have heard from the troops.

The leftist politicals have a lot to lose.
Must see Bump.
Thanks for the ping. Indeed a special photo.
It was a picture of a cop rescuing a kid in the Daily News back in the sixties that inspired me to try the NYPD. This should be seen by every all our young...America at its best.
And, as an aside, a reminder that war journalists deserve some credit for their own brass. Too often freepers trash these guys, especially on threads about one of them killed or kidnapped. Somebody put his life in the soup to bring us this image.
bttt
You killed the whole concept with the first photo.
The second one was the hook. It alone should’ve been displayed.
BTTT
And a huge thank you to all who have and do serve the cause of liberty.
Good eye, thanks.
Excellent proposal! (Iraqi vet)
David thanks for what you are doing and this ping.
Maybe Potlatch can show Pelosi hiding behind this brave American Warrior.
Great post.
It was a photo of a World War II paratrooper who had obviously been in battle for weeks. The story below the photo was:
A paratrooper yelled at a tanker, "hey! You looking for a place to park that thing?"
The tanker replied that he was looking for a spot. The paratrooper said, "park it behind me. I'm 82nd Airborne and this is as far as the bastards are going."
God bless the 82nd.
Or, using some sort of electronic device (probably a cell phone) to help the enemy triangulate the soldier's position.
I know its not the weepy sentiment of most of the people here, but we saw way too much of kids being used like this back in Vietnam.
