Perhaps more folks at FR that believe all muslims/Arabs should be eradicated, should take note of this sacrifice.

When there is a massive general uprising in the muslim community renouncing the radicals among them, I’ll believe that they do not wish to destroy/dominate us.

An how diheartening for Iraqis who step up for the fight to be continually lectured by our moronic Congress that they need to step up. Pelosi, Reid and the gang should walk a block in these folks shoes.

It stands to reason....just as there are secular Jews, secular Catholics, secular Mormons, secular Whatevers.....there are secular Muslims.

I know reason is a lost art...at times.

I don't get that vibe here from Freepers.

It is hard to dismiss the fact that so many of the problems in the world right now center around that region and the people in it.

This individual was indeed brave.

Oh, I sure do. Every time I say "Not all Muslims are terrorists," or something along those lines, I get a bunch of know-it-all hyenas yapping at me about how they're all evil and demanding that hundreds of thousands of Muslims tell them they're not personally or they won't believe it.

Secularism is predominant in Iraq. Most Iraqis I know do not go to the mosque, enjoy alcoholic beverages, dress in western clothing and listen to rock and roll and other modern music.

And most of them despise the terrorists.

Perhaps the only way is for educating them piecemeal. Perhaps occurances such as a half million plus Sunni in al Anbar who now will fight side by side with the American Army and Marines while they hear their leaders pledging allegience to the new Iraqi Government, and sworn allegience to work with the US and Iraqi forces, are feeble first steps, but never the less a start.
On other fronts within the ME, we should pay attention to various groups that are now speaking up against all forms of terrorism. I assume you have been seeing the articles posted at FR over the past year or so to this effect.
They are far and in between but never the less illustrate, that there are those in the Muslim world that do not adhere to the premises (hog wash), the morons that actually wrote the Quran perpetuated upon the peoples of that region.
I don't wear rose colored glasses. It will take a long time. One does not turn a long term way of thinking around in just a few years.
But one gains hope for a brighter future for themselves and their children they can be pursuaded to rethink what they have learned from early childhood.
Does the Japanese people wish to destroy America. One can find extremly close parallels in how their militaristic society for many hundreds of years operated, and how they where turned around. Those suicide bombers promised the help of a divine wind, that did not pay the ultimate sacrifice found in the long haul, democracy and freedom to live within the rules of the land with a chance at prosperity was far better then following some ancient philosophy based on dying for one's emporer.
We see a new Iraq emerging. One where western ideas are being given a chance to experiment with, less a dictator that loved to hear about people being tossed into the shredders.
Once Iraq becomes stabilized and starts to extract huge amounts of oil, and hopefully has the wisdom to share it amoung all Iraqi, the rest of the muslim world shall take note, the Americans did not come to take their oil away. You may be surprised at how many ME and perhaps far east muslims are watching what happens in Iraq very closely.
And you can bet many have thought about what it could be like to be free of dictators, and squalled living conditions. So many of them are a miserable lot at best. And do realize many are not at all well versed in what their cult's writings really contain. Take away the imans that preach death, and install governments that show they will raise the living standards of millions and you will find the false prophet's messages will wane and die away.

Well said.

I have long felt that liberals (and many conservatives) don’t realize that our actions in Iraq will pay off long down the road if we see it through. It’s not just about how many terrorists we are killing. It’s the sacrifices we are making...and the people we are fighting alongside making them with us...that are going to be etched in the minds of Muslim generations to follow. That is also the reason abandoning them now would be disastrous.

Even heads must prevail.
Besides. If one would carefully calculate just how many nuclear devices we have in the US arsenal, and one has even a little background in geography, one quickly realizes we could never blow up all muslims. So extinguishing them from existance is a rather mute point.

Well socks. You have long resisted the urge to drop out, and remain silent. Obviously your cool head has helped some see things in a different light.
Stay safe, and cool as possible.

I was at Arlington on Wednesday and there were three gravestones with the Islam/Muslim symbol on them....American soldiers who died in Iraq.

I don't for one minute dismiss any of the issues surrounding the world of Islam. I have read much on the religion from different perspectives, and authors of books since the mid eigthees. I do not where rose colored glasses.
But when Iraqi Sunni fought side by side with my nephew during various operations in al Anbar and earlier on in the TOD, I somehow realized there are Arabs that now can be trusted. There are growing numbers of Iraqi that want the new government to work as well as having the US stay in situ and build them up so that they can protect themselves. Besides to many of them have been first hand recepients in obtaining new sewage and water treatment plants, medical facilities, schools, electricity and other modern convienances that never new what this stuff was earlier on.
One cannot tell me that those that now fight with our guys are plotting to kill us in due time. The tide has turned. The majority of Iraqi want peace and a better future. And they know fully well, who has made the dream possible for them.

Since 2005, three times as many Iraqi security forces, military and police, have been killed as US forces. It bears repeating as does the fact that Iraqi government officials and their families have been assassisnated or injured.
