HARTFORD, June 1 Illegal immigrants who graduate from Connecticut high schools will be eligible for the resident tuition rate at the states public universities and colleges if the governor signs a bill that the Senate narrowly passed on Friday.
Connecticut would join 10 other states, including New York, that allow illegal immigrants to pay the in-state rate that is available to other residents. Illegal immigrants now often pay twice as much to attend Connecticuts taxpayer-supported colleges and universities.
Aides to Gov. M. Jodi Rell, a Republican, said she would not decide whether to sign the bill until she sees its final language, which she had not done Friday.
The Senate approved the bill, 20 to 15, after a three-hour debate in which several Republicans vigorously argued against the measure, saying that it would reward illegal activity. The debate in the House was similarly heated before the bill passed, 76 to 67, on May 17, with several Democrats joining most Republicans to vote against the measure.
What were doing here today is trying to incorporate some kids who, through no fault of their own, have arrived in our communities, said Jonathan Harris, a Democrat from West Hartford who was the bills lead sponsor in the Senate. They reside in our state. Theyve gone to four years of high school. Theyve demonstrated the acumen and the academic success.
In 2001, Texas was the first state to grant in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. New York passed a similar bill in 2002. Some state legislatures including the one in Texas have debated laws prohibiting in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants. Last year, Arizona voters overwhelmingly approved such a ban.

Great...more dopes.
How did Speaker Amann vote?
What if I am an undocumented high school graduate? Can I still pay in-state tuition?
LOL, bend over and grab your ankles, Connecticut taxpayers.
You deserve exactly what you elect. Hahahaha.....
So let me get this straight. Honest, legal, paying Americans will lose college slots to illegals paying a discount rate?

I was so upset I typed too quickly.
Illegals will now pay LESS than CITIZENS from out of state. Whose country is this? It’s not America anymore.
Seems to me like a facial violation of the federal civil rights law that prohibit discrimination based upon national origin.
Non-residents who are citizens of other nations are given preferential treatment, while non-residents who are Americans are denied that benefit.
That’s the picture. Every time I hear the story of an illegal saying that he or she would have never been able to make it through college without the break, I think of the deserving American who was pushed out of line.

Anyone know where this is taught? From millions at the state giving away tax dollars to the President giving Billions to everyone except Americans.

Exactly, just yesterday was it, he proposed 30 billion to fight aids in Africa, I always wondered where they did the testing at in Africa, to know who had aids..
Next thing you know illegals will get scholarships and free tuition in exchange for maintaining the universities lawns and gardens. Meanwhile American citizens kids will have to pay more $$ for tuition. as Hildabeast says, “taking things from you for the common good”. Robbing Hoods they are...
Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.
Special rights for lawbreakers.”
Special rights for any one in America except Americans.
meanwhile, an american citizen who wants to go to an out-of-state university
cannot get in-state tuition,
but an illegal can.
