The man wanted in the 2005 shooting death of an Army National Guardsman in Murrieta returned to California today after nearly two years hiding in Mexico.

Fabian Cayetano Urrea, a 21-year-old Mead Valley man, arrived about 2 p.m. at Murrieta Police Department for questioning and booking on a murder charge for the June 2005 shooting death of Jorge Estrada.

The nearly one-and-a-half year hunt for Urrea ended in January, when authorities in Culiacán, Mexico, arrested Urrea at a motorcycle shop at which he worked.

"Justice has been delayed, but the victim, a brave American hero, and his family have not been forgotten," Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco said in a statement. "Their voices were finally heard today."

On June 9, 2005, Urrea fled to Mexico in the hours after Estrada, 24, was shot and killed in a Jackson Avenue apartment complex parking lot, Murrieta police have reported.

Estrada, who saw combat in Baghdad, was in Murrieta on leave from duty in Iraq to be with his wife, Diana Estrada, when he was shot in the chest during an argument with Urrea, police said. The men were arguing over custody of newborn Lililan Estrada. The little girl is Urrea's biological child, but Estrada was married to the baby's mother, Diana Estrada, police said.

Estrada had vowed to raise the baby as his own and the couple planned to move to Pennsylvania, Estrada's friends have said.

After the shooting, Urrea disappeared and his family held a meeting at the Hemet home of his sister, Patricia Urrea, to discuss what he should do, court records state. Urrea's aunt, Margaret Arambula, agreed to drive him to Mexicali, court documents state.

Both relatives were later convicted of helping Urrea escape.

Urrea is expected to be arraigned on a murder charge at the Southwest Justice Center in French Valley.

Oh goody. We get to be financially responsible for him for the rest of his worthless life.

No wonder Mr. Estrada thought he would be a better father! The name Urrea, how about just “piss”? It’s far more accurate descriptively.

Obvious proof of being in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2007. Give him a Z-visa!
