In Scandinavia the family can request an elderly or sick family member be “put down” . They kill imperfect babies.

I agree that this is the future for America, that is the direction we are going in

Actually, the most widely used treatments (one of three interferons or a drug called Copaxone) all run around $1500-$1800 per month. There is a newer, once a month infusion called Tysabri, and it runs higher. But $70,000 seems on the high side for a treatment price (of course, they may be adding in the cost of extra meds for spasticity, fatigue, etc.)

From what I know from UK MSers, the NHS does pay for a disease modifying drug...although they might not have the choice of which one. Same in Canada, they do pay for the drugs, but things like MRIs, etc. can take a long time to get. In Canada, I’ve heard of folks neurologists telling them they need an MRI to confirm the disease, and then they have to wait 3 or 4 months to get one.

I got that figure from a neurologist that’s primary specialties are MS and Parkinsons

In Ontario they only have a couple of CATT scan and MRI machines so there is a waiting list, unless you are in the hospital then you go to the front of the line.

No question that can delay diagnosis and Treatment.

Anyone persuading someone to off themselves for ANY reason should be charged with murder.
This is another case of consentual murder by persuasion.

I didn’t previously know that Chlamydia Pneumoniae can cause MS. It causes so many things, including heart attacks. Suppose a cure was found, you can’t bring these people back from the grave.

The concept of repealing laws against victimless crimes is not absurd, especially considering the constitutional rights abuses associated with the pursuit of the sham drug war.

I just illustrated to you a victimless crime. The blood-alcohol percent's effects on individuals vary greatly. DUI should not be illegal under your reasoning because it is arbitrary (who is really drunk?).

And aren't the effects of the illegal drugs substantially greater than alcohol? It's wrong to drive while drunk but not while high?

We have opened a Pandora’s Box that is going to be extremely difficult to close.

“I, as a husband, have been cheated out of time I could have had with my wife because we do not have this service in Britain.”

The irony in the above statement is astounding. He was cheated out of years of time with his wife, because she chose to die instead of pursuing treatment that might have been helpful. And HE blames it on he state.

"It’s perfectly easy to commit suicide without any laws, so-called clinics, or Dr. Kevorkians. Heck, there are guns, poisons, sleeping pills, ropes, bridges, gas ovens and cliffs all available right now. People have been jumping off Golden Gate Bridge ever since it was built."

Exactly right and have said so many times myself.

Dear Rollie,

Please be very careful with this position. What originally started as "acts of mercy" in certain European countries has transformed into murder. Children born with cleft pallettes, for example, are being euthanized by doctors, even if the families WANT them, because of "quality of life" concerns.

Joaquin Phoenix is a super-hot star, with babes dripping off of him, and makes millions per movie. He was born with a cleft pallette!

Elderly are being euthanized because families don't want to take care of them anymore, even if they don't have life threatening or terminal conditions. Most don't even go to the doctor, because the DOCTOR can make the determination that their "quality of life" is not longer sufficient and take their lives in the office WITHOUT their permission.

Check out the book, "Forced Exit: The Slippery Slope". It will give you chills!

The amazing thing is that so many don’t see it. How can they see black as white?

No, you did not. Drunk driving is not a victimless crime, no matter how many times you say it is. You are using a strawman argument.

I drink 8 beers. I get in my car. I drive from the bar to my house.

I broke the law. Who is the victim?

That's like saying it's OK to pull a gun and shoot at someone, as long as you don't hit them.

You cannot wantonly place the public in danger. You do not have that right, and DUI is most certainly not a victimless crime. We are guranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Your rights stop where mine start. And my right to life means you cannot endanger me by getting in a car and driving after drinking almost half a case of beer.

In short, I'm the victim. I drive on the same road you do, and you are placing me in danger by your actions. This is not a victimless crime; I doubt even the nutbar Libertarians (capital L) would call DUI a victimless crime.

Now, if you drank those eight beers at your house and didn't drive...well that's up to you. It's your right to drink those beers so long as you don't injure or endanger anyone while doing it. For that matter, you can smoke dope if you want, so long as you don't endanger anyone. That's your right. Now, personally, I highly don't recommend any of these activities, as they are immoral and will have nothing but poor consequences for you personally.
