June 3, 2007 -- As you can see from the chart above, Katie Couric’s first nine months at CBS aren’t exactly going as planned - in fact, she’s costing CBS an arm and a leg and a whole lot more for each viewer she hangs onto in her shrinking audience.

And last week the $15 million- a-year anchor got even more expensive....."

As I see it, it’s not just Katie. The era of the mega-star anchor has come to an end, like sorcerers and dragons, I shall miss neither.

She’ll be gone by the end of the year. Look for Anderson Cooper to get the job.

One woman couldn't do it, why would another?

I think you’re correct, and I too would be happy to see it. I have respect for ‘reporters’ who go out and honestly try to dig up and understand the truth (hopefully they still exist out there somewhere). On the other hand, I have no idea why the networks would want to spend millions of dollars paying someone to essentially read the news on the air.

If they were smart they’d hire Brit Hume but since they aren’t they’ll hire Anderson Cooper.

I wonder how useful this statistic is, and what it would be if you compared it with what the cost per head is on some of the CNN and Fox shows. And when you get right down to it Rush attracts between 14 and 15 million per week, or about 3 million a day, and makes $28 million a year to do it. Do the math.

Doesn't matter who takes her place. The prehistoric media is finished. They are going the way of the dinosaur and so long as they keep professing their liberalism it's only going to happen faster.

JMHO

Logic makes one think that when a liberal format starts to hurt a network in the pocketbook they will change. My guess is that they still won’t get it and continue with newscasters/content that lead them down the road to oblivion. They are blind to their biases

Any advertiser should be GRATEFUL to pay the extra 500% to have CBS get their info out.

It was through Gunga-Dan and his MemoGate that I learned that in TVland the “producers” are the people who do the actual research and footwork whereas the “reporters” merely read the agreed-upon questions in the taped interviews.

Investigative Journalism 101. You learn something new everyday. For my own part I would be happy to let the producers ask their questions on camera and let the “newsreaders” stick to reading the news.

In the seventies, advertisers paid $2.51...to reach a thousand households.

In the oughts, CBS is paying their anchorette $2.51...to reach a single viewer.

Times have, indeed, changed.
