Immigration Sabotage (gag alert)
New York Times ^ | June 4, 2007 | NYT editorial staff

Posted on 06/03/2007 11:44:10 PM PDT by Baladas

The Senate plans to resume debate today on its proposed immigration overhaul, which has withstood more than a week of bombardment from critics right and left. More than 100 amendments are circling, many designed to make the tortuously drafted compromise meaner, narrower and nastier.

The coalition that struck the deal has so far stood firm against efforts to gut its more generous and sensible provisions. While there is so much to do to improve this flawed bill, the senators also must make sure it doesn’t get worse. That means beating back a particularly noxious amendment from Senator John Cornyn of Texas.

Its ostensible purpose is to “close a gaping loophole” that Mr. Cornyn says would allow terrorists, gang members and sex offenders into the country. But his real target is bigger than that. He had no appetite for the bipartisan compromise and now wants to destroy it by attacking one of its pillars: a path to legal status for an estimated 12 million immigrants.

Mr. Cornyn would do this by significantly expanding the universe of offenses that make someone ineligible for legalization. Some people who used fake identity papers — a huge portion of the undocumented population — would be disqualified. The amendment would also expand the definition of “aggravated felonies,” an already overbroad category of crimes, to include the act of entering or re-entering the country illegally.

Even more perversely, the amendment applies retroactively. So people who crossed illegally years ago — even those whose sentences have been suspended — would be subject to the drastic consequences of being declared “aggravated felons.” They would face mandatory detention and deportation under already negligible protections of due process.

Did Vincente Fox write the article? It surely wasn’t written by an American citizen.

What protection of “due process” would that be? They aren’t Americans! Why should they get American benefits?!

What is especially aggravating is that Jorge Bush wants amnesty for foreigners but not for Americans. If illegals get amnesty, give amnesty for all! No back taxes, parking tickets, military enlistment contracts, open the jails - if he wants amnesty, do the whole enchilada! Everyone, not just illegals - but of course that won’t happen since Americans have to pay taxes so illegals can have their freebies.

There is no need for any illegal immigration “reform”. We need to reform the politicans so they will enforce our existing immigration laws.

In the netherworld occupied by the editorial board of the New York Times, "Justice," "due process," and "fairness" arise not from our founding documents such as the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence, nor do they come from the hoary body of common law which was antecedent to these documents and subsequently expiated them, nor does it come from legislation made pursuant to our Constitution and our God-given legacy of the common law, but rather such "rights" emanate because we are-or, God help us, are not-members of an anointed group.

Are you brown? Better yet, are you black? Are you female? Better yet, are you a brown or black female? Are you homosexual? Better yet, are you a black, brown, female homosexual? are you poor? Are you illiterate, uneducated, infected with AIDS? Even if you are not a black or brown homosexual female, the New York Times editorial board will accord you certain rights if you can qualify as one of these subgroups.

Are you white, male, heterosexual, law-abiding, employed, taxpaying, patriotic American? Then, Regrettably but unavoidably, you are a member of a group which has few and limited rights because your group, by definition, oppresses those in the previously described groups. In the New York Times board room, rights are not established by law, or even by deed, but by group identity.

So, what does it matter if a bill would grant amnesty to millions of felons in a single stroke? To The New York Times editorial board it matters not at all because crimes are not defined in the statute books. In the netherworld of the New York Times editorial board room, this bill does not give amnesty to felons who committed past crimes, but rectifies an ongoing crime committed against an oppressed class.

“Some people who used fake identity papers — a huge portion of the undocumented population — would be disqualified.”

Hear, hear!!! WooHoo... Finally someone mentioned this!

That’s what I’ve been wondering aloud about for the last few days.

They say “It’s not amnesty”. Well, if the criminals who have perpetrated ID Theft/Fraud and/or Tax Evasion don’t receive the same punishment for these criminal offenses as U.S. Citizens do (if not worse), then it is Amnesty no matter how you spin it...

Apparantly very few people--if anyone does--know exactly what is in this bill. Therefore, the rush and the pressure to pass it are alarming.

If our political leaders care about the welfare of the American people and the U.S., they should take their time, examine it carefully, and make sure everyone knows what's going on. But--as the ancient Spartans replied to Philip of Macedonia: If!

Responsible politicians--if there are any in Washington--should pass provisions of the bill in segments.

First--should be closure of the Mexican Border, its fortification, and a halt to further illegal immigration.

Other provisions should be taken up after that.

To pass a sweeping omnibus bill--that no one understands or knows what's in--is the height of recklessnes and irresponsibility! The American people have every reason to be outraged!

For Republican politicians to defer to the good will and honesty of Democrat politicians is ridiculous!

As usual, the editorial staff of the New York Times comes down on the side of the absurd. Where do they find enough Neanderthals to staff that rag?

The New York Times wants guaranteed, no questions asked admission for Adam Gadahn's boys. I'd call that the No Jihadist Left Behind amnesty.

>>The coalition that struck the deal has so far stood firm against efforts to gut its more generous and sensible provisions.<<

It’s “generous” all right, but it’s only “sensible” if you believe that we would like to legalize lawbreakers and gang members, and taxpayers should pay for their immigration lawyers.

>>Its ostensible purpose is to “close a gaping loophole” that Mr. Cornyn says would allow terrorists, gang members and sex offenders into the country. But his real target is bigger than that. He had no appetite for the bipartisan compromise and now wants to destroy it by attacking one of its pillars: a path to legal status for an estimated 12 million immigrants.<<

I don’t know about 12 million, but I hope he succeeds if that is his goal.

>>Mr. Cornyn would do this by significantly expanding the universe of offenses that make someone ineligible for legalization. I will predict that his amendment will be voted down, and maybe that will give some Senators that are not totally corrupt an excuse to vote NAY.

If his amendment is voted down and the bill becomes law, illegals with 2 DUI convictions will be here forever, and we can start counting the traffic deaths that will result.

Unfortunately, the Senate will approve this bill. Our only hope is the House and the odds are slim.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty
