Seafood imports from China raised in untreated sewage -treated with dangerous drugs, chemicals
World Net Daily ^ | 06-04-2007

Many of the products used are banned in the U.S. Traces of these drugs have been showing up increasingly in imports – especially from China.

"In addition to potentially making people sick, overuse of such drugs is contributing to antibiotic resistance, a growing public health concern in a variety of foods," says Food & Water Watch in its report "Import Alert: Government Fails Consumers, Falls Short on Seafood Inspections."

But the grave news on China's seafood exports is worsened by the FDA's inability to inspect imports. The percentage of important seafood shipments with samples taken for laboratory inspection has decreased over

Because they are dirt cheap. Dirt being the central word.

I personally boycott Made in China goods as far as possible.
Unfortunately it becomes harder and harder especially with plastic and electronical goods. I try to stick to Made in Taiwan, Korea or Philipines then.

And how does one know when their seafood comes from China? This is really bad.

C'mon free traitors, let's have the arguments.

I can smell the arguments now. They always start off with the condescending, whiny, liberal-rodent like phrase:

"Well, ya see, Mr. Heep..."

Why do firms offshore? Because it’s cheap.

Why is it cheap? Because FDA, EPA, OSHA, minimum wages, child labor laws... and other standards or laws don’t apply. Labor costs are only part of the equation. Things that are often illegal in the US are completely legal in other places, and the irony is that it’s OK to import these goods and no one says anything until some scare like this happens. But no worries America, the scandal will pass and your unsatisfiable appetite for cheap made products can continue unhindered.

When it’s packaged it has to have the country of origin named.

Could be difficult when unpackaged or offered in a restaurant.

People that take “fish oil” supplements need to contact the manufacturer and ask if there is Chinese fish oil in them.

I contacted Eckerd Pharmacy to ask about THEIR brand. (Yes they use Chinese fish oil)

We have to remember that the reach is greater than just the product itself.

A company like Red Lobster that serves primarily sea food and is a national company probably gets all its sea food from China.

We need to start asking and walking out of places that do not have American fish products available ,

Check with your local seafood counter salesperson. Or if you buy it frozen, check the package.

Most of the seafood in the stores, especially shrimp, catfish, etc. are coming from either Thailand or China.

When it’s packaged it has to have the country of origin named.

BUT if it is repackaged ( as in a market) it does not. Look at all the frozen and dry products that only say "distributed by"

We need to start to be assertive. It has never been easier thanks to e mail and company sites

you know, people talk about how China’s ecomnomy is on fire, and they’re catching up to us, and blah blah, but you know what? They’re going to take a HUGE hit with this. These stories keep coming out, and with each one, people ask— are they doing it on purpose, or are they just slipshod?

Spooky country

Some here on FR love the chicoms... "they" always berate me when I point out china wants us all dead! I will buy nothing from china and I hope their economy collapses completely. It might hurt us in the short term, but at least we will not sell the chicoms the rope with which they wish to hang us!

Recently at the grocery store they were having a sale on red peppers. Yellow and orange were regular price.

Red from Mexico, yellow and orange from Canada.

I chose Canada. Never ever buy food from Mexico or China.

If you eat it and you drop dead, then your seafood came from China.
