Bigotry always is sinful, even if the target are 'illegal'
Daily Southtown ^ | June 1, 2007 | Andrew Greeley

Posted on 06/05/2007 2:49:00 AM PDT by B. Chezwick

Bigotry never goes away. When it becomes unfashionable, it goes underground and waits until a new hate group appears into which it can project its twisted sickness.

Racism, anti-Semitism, anti-Catholicism and anti-immigrant nativism are chronic infections in the American body politic. Rush Limbaugh singing his obscene tune "Barack the Magic Negro" is inviting prejudice and violence.

However, for pure irrational rage, the current crop of nativists are some of the worst to come along since the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s or those God-fearing Protestants who burned convents in Boston in the 19th century.

Once S 1348 becomes law, they will all be legal, and nativists will have nothing left to complain about.

"Legal" through Bush's Shamnesty program is not fair. All illegals, regardless of race/origin, should be made to go back home and stand in line behind those already applying to enter the US under current laws.

No need for S1348, enforce the current laws instead!

You didn’t miss your chance, though, did you?

By the way, this bill will never become law.

Good to hear. Once S 1348 becomes law, they will all be legal

No, they will have z-visas that have to be renewed every 4 years at $500 a pop. Most won't bother even getting a z-visa. Even fewer will pay the fines to pursue the path to full citizenship.

What have we gained other than making it easier for terrorists to get legal documents?

One billion in poverty, do they all have the right to immigrate to America? Why not? If 12 million is OK, why not 1 billion?

It's easy to be compassionate when you are spending someone else's money.

The first three paragraphs are simply an incitement to hate. Oddly enough, it is bigotry.

However, for pure irrational rage, the current crop of nativists are some of the worst to come along since the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s Hmmm . . . KKK of '20s: Broke laws to restrict freedoms and rights of legitimate citizens. "Current crop of nativists": Insists U.S. laws be enforced to protect security of country and economy. Yeah, I see the connection. < /sarc>

". . . right-thinking people . . ." < codebreak> Liberal elitist media. < /codebreak> The poll reports last week . . . done by The New York Times and CBS . . .

Yep, those are two sources which start with the answer they want, then design the poll to achieve it.

hating African-Americans was a sin 40 years ago (and it was and still is), then hating "illegals" is a sin today. Ever hear of "hate the sin, not the sinner"? Isn't that a Christian concept? Hating African Americans for being African Americans IS a sin. Hating illegals for being poor, or non-American, IS a sin. Hating the negative effects of illegals (crime, draining of social benefits away from U.S. citizens, etc.) on the U.S. is not a sin, it's common sense.

So death is an appropriate punishment for what is legally only a misdemeanor? No, but sometimes death is Nature's punishment for being stupid, or unprepared, or unlucky.

Yet every other American ethnic group waves the flag of its origins -- Poland, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark. Why deny that custom only to one group? Because he despises that group. < patiencewithstupiditymode>No, because an AMERICAN ETHNIC GROUP is a group of Americans with a common ethnic background, and they wave their flag to celebrate that. Illegals are illegals, and they wave their Mexican flag to thumb their nose at citizens, at our laws, and (in some cases) to promote "reconquista." < /patiencewithstupiditymode>

More hate mail affirms that the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness belong only to American citizens. Absolutely. And when the government did not recognize those rights, American colonists took steps to ensure it did. Mexican citizens are welcome to pursue their own course of action to ensure, "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" -- IN MEXICO.

. . . which is how Hitler started . . . Ahh, how predictable. Just about any time a liberal runs into opposition, the "Hitler and Nazi" card comes out. Hitler and the Nazis were not opposing illegal immigration, they were oppressing legitimate citizens who were obeying German laws. I don't see many illegals being gassed, or carted off to work camps, or burned, or buried in mass graves. See the difference? No, probably not.

The moral theology I learned said someone who was desperate for food could steal from the rich without sinning. Well, here we go -- stealing is not a sin? Hmm. Moral relativism. But when you take my tax money to support social programs for illegals, to increase law enforcement to protect citizens, to provide increased security for Americans who are threatened socially and economically, you are not stealing from a rich man -- you are stealing from little old middle-class ME. And I don't like it.

With all the abundance north of the border and all the poverty south of the border, I doubt very much that a generous God would find anything more than bravery in the souls of those who strive to improve the lives of their families. As long as you are invoking God's name, it begs the question -- who created the situation in the first place???

“Once S 1348 becomes law, they will all be legal” followed by name calling.’

That’s what they said after the last amnesty. When you reward breaking the law, you get more of the same. Why should these law breakers be moved to the head of the line above all the other people of the world?

My own mother was a Mexican immigrant and most of my relatives are Mexicans living in Mexico.

Having said that, most of the Mexicans that we absorb into this country every year are Mexicans who either vote for the left of center PRI or the even further left PRD. Little wonder when they come over here they feel right at home in the Democratic party.

The majority of Mexicans that we have taken into this country over the past 25 years are people who would not have been able to successfully qualify as legal immigrants into their very own country ( Mexico ). Furthermore, there is no Latin American country that would have actually allowed the Mexican underclass to flood into their country year after year as we have. Period.

Look at how Mexico defends its own border with its fellow Latin American neighbor Guatemala. They have actual soldiers from the Mexican Army equipped with fully automatic rifles. What does that tell you...?

Greeley doesn't know what the hell he is talking about...

Pure bile!!. The claim is there millions upon millions of misdemeanor criminals, not to even mention all the illegal document production, which I doubt is a misdemeanor. Further how about all the law breaking employers hiring all these millions of misdemeanor criminals. What we have here is a criminal enterprise going on and this turkey is an idiot.

Rush is NOT the one who coined the phrase “Barack the Magic Negro”, and now how about that commandment about bearing false witness?

Then we get this pious demand for clergy to castigate their members for “hate”. We have just about gotten to the point in this nation that it will only be the Heavenly Father that can sort out the lunatic distortion of His instruction book.

Typical is all I can. Last time I checked crosses weren’t being burned in the front lawns of illegal aliens. Illegals aren’t in general being tortured or killed, they end up on welfare and become the recipients of much public charity. Those who are devoid of reasoned argument resort to calling their opponents bigots. It is a cowardly method that is unworthy of serious consideration. When speaking truth is bigotry then do lies become liberty?

Does Andrew Greeley clean out his ears with toilet paper? ...because that sure ain’t brains in his head!

Okay, Andrew... by your own moronic argument, I guess the bigot of tomorrow would be someone who’s against terrorism. Oh... wait... I guess that’s why RATS support the terrorists, because they’re “bias-neutral.”

The person who said these people are going to be the downfall of America was right. The moonbats have surely always been there, but now they’ve wormed their way into the mainstream, and are spreading their idiotic mind-farts that pass for ideas into the heads of our young (”An Inconvienient Blob”... um, I mean “Truth”, anyone?).

What nominal conservatives have said about Mexican immigrants -- and to them, they are all "illegals," for none has come forth to defend them in any way shape or form; clearly to these nominal conservatives anyone who isn't just like them is sub-human -- what they have said and implied is completely bigotted and inexcusable.

Silly post. Legal citizens don't need defenders. They are not the subject of the current debate and noone is trying to send them back to their country of origin.

So don't try to change the subject. The debate IS whether folks here illegally should become voting citizens and how soon. That's a big and important debate. It is possible to disagree with Teddy Kennedy and not be a bigot.

The debate is NOT whether we should all put on sheets and burn crosses on the lawns of folks with "tans." That would be an akward debate for me as I would have to burn a cross in my front yard. See what I mean?

Two more comments:

1. The anger I see in this debate is not so much directed at illegals as it is at the folks in our America's governing class who a) have deliberately permitted porous borders for various motives (dems for votes and to create a new dependent class and business R's for cheap labor that won't join unions) and b) if history is a guide, have no intention of closing the border once their amnesty bill is passed.

Doesn't it make you a little angry that the political class has decided how it's going to be and that they are going to shove it down America's throat, no matter what us goobers think of it? They have created the crisis with almost criminal negligence in protecting our borders since 1986. And now, they rush in to solve the crisis they created with a solution that most Americans don't want. When the citizens say, "hold it for a minute, how do we know you are actually going to protect the border?" the response is "You are bigots."

That sure makes ME angry. But not at Maria, down the block. At Teddy and W and Captain Queeg and the big-dollar contributors to all of them who are going to have their way on this issue no matter how Americans feel on the subject.

2. On a side note, your moniker suggests an attachment on your part to the free market. Ask yourself, given historic voting patterns of new immigrants, whether any shred of your free market will remain after we add 5% to the voting population that pulls the lever for folks like Teddy Kennedy and Henry Waxman. That additional 5% gives the left a 20-30 year governing majority. That's "America-down-the-tubes" time, pretty much for good.

Our family has some personal experience of the morality of “Father” Andrew Greeley. Suffice it to say, he is in no position to criticize anyone about anything.

This old boy says in his article that he is getting hate mail about his anti-war position and his pro-illigal immigration stance. Ever notice when a liberal gets mail that is less than favorable to his position it is immediately hate mail?
