A new wave of anti-Republican signs has sprouted across Spartanburg County, this time lambasting a bill in the state Legislature that, if passed, would allow people with concealed weapon permits to carry firearms onto high school or college campuses. It also would allow anyone to carry a handgun under his driver's seat.
The signs proclaim: "Vote Yes - Make guns legal in public schools - Vote Republican."
The illegally placed roadside signs been spotted at various places around the county, including along Highway 221, Reidville Road and I-26.
It's the second time in as many months that signs have emerged taking an extreme position within the Republican Party and portray it as what the core of the party believes.

Sounds like a sign that needs some buckshot....
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
On the other hand, those who put up the signs would prefer that guns were banned on campuses. And we all know how good an idea that is. (Columbine, VA Tech ... ) So maybe some enterprising FReeper could put up opposing signs, “Keep guns illegal at campuses ... the status quo is just peachy.”

I don’t quite understand. Isn’t that a GOOD sign? Don’t we WANT to make carrying concealed weapons into the schools legal if you have a permit?
"Vote No - Make crazed mass-murderers like the VA Tech killer the only ones with guns in public schools - Vote Democrat."
Encourage V-Techs...Enshrine Columbines....Vote Democrat! (Demagogue?)
I think the signs are made by the anti-gun nuts with the purpose of scaring people. I’m sure they didn’t intend to advance our point. (Those dip$hits......)
I’ll donate to that billboard! Seriously. Any locals want to take up the cause?!
Guns were a common sight in schools, even in NYC, just a generation ago. ROTC shooting teams would practice in the basements. My 8th grade class in Colorado could not graduate until we passed a hunter education course that included shooting at targets on the football field.
When we were growing up, the kids didn’t get so much input from their surroundings that shooting people was a common, ordinary way to solve your problems.
We were taught to respect life, not to kill it whenever it bothered us.
We didn’t watch TV and movies every day that showed people killing others, and glorifying it.
We didn’t have politicians arguing about how “important” it was to kill people who were old and infirmed, or how it was important to kill babies to make women “free”.
I still think we need guns in schools, but I don’t think they should be readily accessable to the students. I just think there is nothing magical about police or “security guards”.
One of the first lessons we learned was safe handling and storage of firearms, and that you don't just grab one off the shelf at any time. (That made Sgt Alms, our instructor, rather excitable... and you did NOT want to excite Sgt Alms!!)
I can't find fault with this slogan. The death toll at VA Tech might have been reduced by 90%.
Vote No - protect mass killers in schools from their law abiding victims - Vote Democrat.
I live in the Columbia, SC area, and have seen this and other signs like it around the area at important intersections. I’ve even taken a couple down — in broad daylight. If the signs are illegal, then tearing them down isn’t, right?
There is a line between political debate and slander. These signs DO NOT represent what Republicans — or conservatives — believe. If Republicans posted such signs about Democrats, we KNOW what they are their Comrades-in-arms would be screaming! Turnabout is fair play.
These signs are HATE SPEECH, posted by hateful people who hate anyone that disagrees with their political ideology. They are indeed true liberals — “everyone is entitled to their own opinion, as long as they agree with me.”
Wow, I sure hope this anti-gun madness doesn’t gain traction. NRA needs to get on this. Or someone.
Get the SC FReepers out their and rent a billboard, preferably close to a well traveled highway or at an exit to a city, post the 3M, or Cox or whoever is leasing it (agreement) and I’ll be happy to donate!
Sure that's anti-Republican?
Sounds like a good reason to vote FOR Republicans!
