WASHINGTON, June 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Immigration Reform Political Action Committee (USIRP), which helped defeat Sen. Spencer Abraham, R-Mich., in the 2000 general election over his pro-illegal alien voting record, announced today it will target senators for defeat again in 2008. "The top senator we want to defeat is Lindsey Graham (news, bio, voting record), R- S.C., and, if he votes for the current Senate amnesty bill, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (news, bio, voting record), R-Ga.," said USIRP communications director Phil Kent.
"Graham, Chambliss and other senators may hope the immigration issue will fade away if they vote yes on this bill. The amnesty bill they are backing will only aggravate an already serious national crisis. When the government starts to implement this bill all its false promises will be revealed. There will be chaos, fraud, and corruption on a massive scale which will insure that immigration remains an open sore for voters for years if not decades," Kent added.
Kent said Abraham's defeat showed that having a huge campaign war-chest was not enough to overcome voters' ire: "All his bags of corporate money didn't save Spencer Abraham, and it won't save Graham or others if viable opponents emerge."
Kent added that the anger that people felt toward Abraham over his pro- illegal alien record as Senate Immigration Subcommittee Chairman pales in comparison to the outrage voters are expressing today. "At least Abraham never pretended to be anything other than an open borders advocate. But as southern conservatives, Graham and Chambliss opposed illegal immigration when they ran for office -- and today their supporters are feeling betrayed."
Kent said the group will also "assess the yes votes of all senators regardless of party, and will target incumbents in either their primary or general election campaigns, whichever is appropriate."

Sounds like this group only goes after Republicans.... they aren’t a stealth pack of Democrat operatives, are they? If we are going to unload on otherwise good Republicans (like Kyl, Chambliss, and Isakson) who happen to be misguided on this one (admittedly big) issue, then it better be Republicans who do the spanking, not the scumbags. And it better be done during the primary, not the general, elections.
Good point, but I’m afraid it will fall on deaf ears.
At this rate we’ll get rid of ALL the Republicans, and won’t we be happy when that leaves...uh, democrats...
I’ll admit I read it as the group backing Republican opponents, but you may be right. At this point, I really don’t care who takes out Chambliss. I will never trust him again. He is a total weasel, he insulted his constituents, and his staff LIED to me.
I Like Ike.
Take the Pledge: "I pledge to never, ever vote for anyone, for any office, who votes in favor of the Mexican Invasion Surrender Bill."
Lindsey Graham deserves to be thrown overboard. John McCain will get what he deserves after he loses his bid for president.
Where do I send my donation? If the Republicans are too stupid to get the hint, they’re too stupid to serve my interests.
Lindsey Graham HAS to be the main target. He’s beatable and up for reelection in 2008.
Just say NO to Amnesty!! Before its too late!!

I live in Georgia too. Is any republican taking on Chambliss? One with enough money to go around the media barrier that hides primary challengers would be especially great.
I am very glad to read this. I hope they go after Martinez too.
That’s a very interesting article about Ike fighting illegal immigration. The problem sounds almost identical to today. Now if we could just elect another president who doesn’t mess around about enforcing the border.
This point needs to be driven over and over again. As far as I'm concerned, your vote in the primaries is as important if not more than the election vote.
back your man in the primary...if he loses, hold your nose again, and vote for the winner.
VOTE in the Primaries!

Next letter I get from Libby Dole’s National Republican Senatorial Committee, I’m going to send these guys a check instead.
I have known Phil Kent for 35 years and can assure you all that he is no front for the Democrats. He is talking about backing Republican primary contenders. However, if those candidates can’t knock off Chambliss, Kyl and the other traitors in the primaries, they can’t be allowed to remain in office just because they are RINOs. If it takes electing Dems, we still have to show them that this kind of behavior cannot be tolerated...
Agreed, and he should be taken out in the Primary. Number 2 on my list is my Senator, Jon Kyl (unfortunately, he just go reelected!).
I hope Herman Cain runs against Chambliss. He’s awesome!
No, you just replace them with conservatives.
Saxby will straighten out but I’m in $$$$$ for throwing lind sissy out on his loafers.
